Cognition IP is currently hiring Paralegals. Come be a part of an exciting startup that is changing how law firms operate. We are growing fast and are looking for adventure seekers who share our vision of using technology to make the practice of law more efficient and of higher quality. Our mission is to revolutionize the delivery of legal services and modernize this industry that has not changed in hundreds of years.

Our venture-backed company includes two components, a law firm and an affiliated technology company. The law firm provides patent legal services to startup companies at fixed-fee rates. The technology company focuses on developing and implementing software and artificial intelligence tools to increase the efficiency of our attorneys and agents, letting them concentrate on the important and skilled parts of IP work.

As a startup, we are fundamentally different than the average law firm, and don't have a traditional hierarchical partnership structure. Every one of our employees is valued for the work that they do. All of our agents, attorneys, and paralegals have the opportunity to work closely with our developers to create tools that will help them in their everyday tasks.

If this sounds exciting to you, we'd love to talk!

DESCRIPTION: The paralegal role is a highly respected position, where you will be working as an equal with our partners and associates, and performing the case management duties that hold our firm together. We see the paralegal's role as critical in keeping the firm organized and on top of every deadline. You will be an integral part of the core team of our startup, and we value every team member for what they bring to the table.

The role includes performing case management duties such as receiving and docketing notifications from the patent offices and managing the firm's calendar of filing deadlines. Tasks also include performing U.S. and PCT filings, completing patent forms, preparing responses on formalities, recording patent assignments, and drafting and sending email notices to clients.

There will also be opportunities to provide input on software we are developing to make case management, docketing, and other tasks easier. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with software developers to come up with ideas for how to improve on current processes.

    KEY RESULT AREAS:

    1. Knowledge of and ability to implement best practices in case management, docketing, form completion, and related tasks
    2. Attention to detail to ensure that deadlines are docketed correctly and forms are completed without error
