    Our headquarters are located in Palo Alto, CA. All positions are hybrid with regional offices located throughout the United States.

    The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing the payroll function at Cognoa. This position ensures that employees are paid accurately and on time, while also ensuring that the company is in compliance with all relevant guidelines.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare paychecks to ensure that employees are paid on time and in the correct amount.
    • Collecting and processing data related to employee timesheets, wages, and taxes.
    • Calculating and processing payroll deductions, such as taxes, benefits, commissions, and garnishments.
    • Auditing payroll information for accuracy and completeness on a regular basis.
    • Maintaining accurate payroll documentation and records.
    • Responding to employee inquiries about pay and benefits.
    • Coordinating with HR, accounting, and other departments to ensure accurate payroll processing.
    • Staying up-to-date with changes in payroll laws and regulations and ensuring compliance with them.
    • Prepare reports for upper management, finance department, etc.

    Qualifications

    • Associate or Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related financial field.
    • Knowledge of payroll industry software tools, whether through college or separate training courses, is essential.
    • Industry-specific certification demonstrates expertise within the field and a commitment to continuing education.
    • Minimum of seven years' experience as a payroll specialist.
    • Proven experience as payroll specialist.
    • Knowledge of payroll software and systems.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Experience with compliance and regulatory issues related to payroll.
    • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices.
    • Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality.
    • Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail.
