We are seeking a dedicated and experienced College Essay Instructor to guide high school students through the college application essay process. This in-person position requires a strong writing background, a passion for mentorship, and the ability to help students find and express their authentic voice. Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant teaching, tutoring, or writing instruction experience.
Responsibilities
Work one-on-one or in small groups to brainstorm, develop, and refine personal statements and supplemental essays.
Provide detailed, constructive feedback to improve clarity, structure, and impact.
Keep students on track with timelines and deadlines.
Maintain accurate student progress records.
Communicate regularly with the counseling team to ensure students’ essays align with their application strategy.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree (completed)
Minimum 2 years of experience teaching/tutoring writing or working in college counseling/admissions
Strong writing and editing skills
Ability to work in-person at our San Jose center
Preferred:
Experience guiding students through selective college application essays
Familiarity with Common App and UC PIQ formats
Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate students
