STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Provides educational services to all students on the Adolescent Unit. Designs and implements curriculum based on State of California Standards. Assists students in the completion of schoolwork provided by their school. Documents participation in the Electronic Medical Record. Reviews Phase Packets to assist patients in moving up the unit Phase System. Participates in performance improvement projects. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
QUALIFICATIONS Any Current California Teaching Credential. Two years’ experience in secondary education and two years’ experience with students experiencing mental health issues preferred. Excellent verbal , written , and classroom management skills. BLS Provider and MAB certification required within 90 days of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching and sitting. Lifting up to 10 pounds. Pulling and pushing up to 25 pounds. Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Finger dexterity. Frequent exposure to stressful situation. Constant public and patient contact.
WORKING CONDITIONS Constant exposure to noise. Occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious disease. Occasional exposure to chemicals and general cleaning agents. Shift hours may vary dependent upon the department needs.

Job Specific Accountabilities • Demonstrates good written and verbal communication skills. Documents participation in school on group progress notes clearly and concisely. • Develops and implements curriculum for all students and participates in performance improvement activities with the Department Director. • Demonstrates effective classroom management and teaching skills. • Reinforces unit/program rules, assists patients in completing phase up packets, implements appropriate consequences for inappropriate behavior and strategies to decrease agitation and increase compliance. • Provides input regarding the evaluation of program effectiveness and actively participates in implementation of change. • Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation in continuing education to meet own professional development needs. • Seeks information necessary for accurate completion of job duties. • Complies with all reporting laws concerning child abuse/neglect, elder/dependent adult abuse/neglect, domestic violence, and Tarasoff notifications. • Effectively performs other duties, as assigned.
