    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Virtual Ophthalmic Scribe will work nearly in real-time with a physician and their care team to complete documentation of clinic visits. Scribes support healthcare providers and their patients by learning medical documentation specific to ophthalmology and using new technologies to create summaries of patient encounters. Scribes save time for providers by delivering accurate documentation within a short time of patient visits. Documentation includes patient histories, exams, radiographic findings, assessments, and treatment plans. Scribes make healthcare functional and efficient by allowing providers to keep their focus on their patients.

    JOB DUTIES:

    Virtual Ophthalmic Scribe

    • A virtual medical scribe will work directly with the provider in a live environment via a Zoom call or Microsoft Teams call, providing the highest quality customer service and effectively manage their volume of work without allowing quality to be compromised.
    • Virtually accompany physician into the patient examination room to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present.
    • Virtual encounters will be during medical examinations and occurring in real-time.
    • A virtual medical scribe handles all electronic medical records and clinical charting off-site, allowing physicians to focus on in-person patient care including documentation of any procedures performed by the physician.
    • Completes administrative work as assigned (e.g.: FMLA paperwork, prepping schedules, patient paperwork, etc)
    • Like all medical workers, remote medical scribes are responsible for maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, which may require setting up a private work environment or remote office.
    • Scribes will be operating the electronic health records (EHR) and anticipating the physician needs in a clinical setting.
    • To achieve high quality work, the Scribes will need to rely on critical thinking, context clues, the provider’s preference sheet, training documents, and research to perform their job.
    • Ensuring medical documentation is error-free and up-to-date.
    • Adding all clinical data, lab reports, and physician interpretations to the medical records and ensuring accuracy.
    • Adhering to all ethical, legal, and confidentiality requirements for preparing medical documents.
    • Maintain a high quality standard and adhere to account-specific documentation which delineates documentation requirements for our customers.
    • Collaborate with managers on feedback from providers and successfully resolve issues
    • Achieve ophthalmic scribing proficiency by completing any necessary training
    • May be asked to provide virtual scribing coverage of audio recordings of patient clinic visits and summarizing medical facts in professional clinical reports (History of Present Illness, Physical Exam, Results, Assessment, and Plan)
    • Other job duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • High School Diploma / GED

    • Experience as a medical Scribe is preferred

    • Proficiency with medical terminology

    • Familiarity with electronic health records is highly preferred

    PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

    • Professional writing skills; including advanced proficiency in grammar and spelling.
    • Excellent listening skills and ability to understand diverse accents and dialects of physicians, their staff, and patients.
    • Ability to work in a secure and private location on a computer with a reliable high-speed internet connection and that can run security software to ensure safe handling of health information.
    • Ability to work during regular Mountain business hours, and to work outside of regular business hours as needed.
    • Ability to work under pressure and limit distractions to consistently meet deadlines.
    • Ability to participate in live video chat and screensharing sessions for training requiring a webcam and microphone as well as quality headphones or earbuds.
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
    • Ability to type at least 60 words per minute_._

     

    CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

    • Opthalmologic certification or equivalent experience, including but not limited to COT and COMT is highly desired.

    STARTING BASE PAY RANGE: $16.94 - $22.02 per hour
