POSITION SUMMARY

Southland Industries is looking for a college student for a paid, part-time Internship.  You will support the accounting team with various tasks and projects related to Southland’s financial recordkeeping that may include recording financial transactions, providing support to operation project teams & project accounting team, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)  This part-time internship will be flexible with a student's schedule with the goal to work at least 10-15 hours a week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Assist with accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable or payroll.
• Collects, reviews, and enters timecards for union personnel and assists in maintaining manpower lists.
• Assembles and tracks subcontracts, change orders, insurance, billings, lien releases, certified payroll, and various other project related tasks under supervision of a project accountant.
• Follow appropriate policies and procedures to assure that Southland maintains compliance with all state and federal laws as well as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Assist with maintaining accurate and appropriate records to ensure data integrity and currency.
• Various other tasks as required by accounting team.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

• Able to analyze and resolve basic issues
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.

• Able to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
• Works under direct supervision
• Makes decisions within defined guidelines

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

• Currently enrolled in or proven completion of core accounting curriculum working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Basic accounting knowledge and GAAP principles
• Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
