    Column Health is seeking full-time addiction recovery coaches to join our rapidly growing team and help patients in treatment at our outpatient medical clinics in New Jersey. Come help address this epidemic with us.

    Summary of Position:

    The Recovery Coach (RC) will provide peer recovery support services to patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and will assist patients in achieving sustained recovery. This position will be working in the community with Column Health patients and prospective patients, in multiple community treatment settings and in conjunction with the the extended Column Health Team..

    The Recovery Coach will be part of a clinical team embedded at multiple Column Health clinics. The RC will facilitate patient access to substance use disorder treatment, resources, and community recovery groups. The RC will act as a knowledgeable resource providing information on resources and navigating barriers. This position will maintain ongoing patient support regardless of relapse and will serve as a motivator, ally, role model, and advocate for patients with substance use disorders. The RC will work to identify appropriate prospective patients and to facilitate rapid and effective intake to the treatment program.  The RC will work to maintain patients in ongoing treatment, work to ensure adherence to our patients' treatment plans and visit schedules. The RC should possess thorough understanding of community culture to address the barriers to successful recovery, better tailor health messages, and provide links to community resources and treatment options.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a liaison between the recovery community, Column Health addiction treatment program, the medical treatment system (ER's, Detox centers, drug courts, PCP offices, etc), and the patient's community, family, and social context to facilitate connections across systems of care
    • Work collaboratively with the Column Health clinical team to implement evidence-based services to patients with SUD
    • Address barriers to successful recovery and serves as role model and advocate and conduct active outreach efforts to encourage attendance and participation in recovery-oriented, self-help, and pro-social groups
    • Meet hospitalized patients with SUD prior to discharge and facilitate patient access to next stage of treatment
    • Negotiate and create opportunities for access to treatment and social services for patients; advocate on behalf of patients to help decrease barriers to care
    • Educate patients about addiction and utilize motivational enhancement techniques to explore ambiguity and tip the scales towards treatment
    • Provide peer and support patients in establishing treatment goals and achieving and maintaining recovery
    • Work with patient and care team to develop a comprehensive treatment plan
    • Clearly and effectively facilitate communication between the patient, PCP, Addiction Medicine Physician, and any external providers maintaining appropriate confidentiality procedures and boundaries

    Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:

    • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and social workers
    • Strong advocacy skills along with knowledge of community based services, resources, and local recovery community
    • Comfort with multiple pathways to recovery from SUD and willingness to embrace a patient-centered approach that recognizes an individual's preferences and autonomy (“recovery by any means necessary”) and comfort in working in medical settings
    • Ability to provide accurate feedback without judgment or discomfort
    • Flexibility to adapt to unforeseen needs or circumstances
    • Excels at problem solving and multitasking, organized, efficient and goal directed
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients/families and staff and handle confidential information
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
    • Effective use of the Internet and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

    Experience:

    • Demonstrates effective use of skills necessary to maintain long-term recovery of 2 or more years

    Education/Degree Requirements:

    • Required: High School Diploma or GED

    • Preferred: Associates degree or some college level course work

    Licensure, Certifications, or Registration:

    • Recovery Coach Academy or other state approved recover coach training program, or is willing to complete within 3 months post hire

    • Certified Addictions Recovery Coach (CARC) certification required within first 12 months of employment
