Job Summary:

The Caregiver provides clients various personal care and homemaker/companion services in accordance with an established care plan so that they can remain in the comfort of their residence.

Essential Functions:

Personal Care

Provide assistance with: bathing, dressing, grooming, nail /skin care, back care, shampoo, oral hygiene, ambulation, transfers, range of motion exercise, safe use of equipment and assisstive devices (wheel chair, walker, crutches, cane), change of position, with toileting, commode, incontinent care, meal planning, preparation, and assistance with feeding

Companion/Sitter/Household Management

Provide companionship and respite services for family

Perform homemaking activities which include (but are not limited to): vacuuming, dusting, sweeping or mopping floors, doing dishes, changing bed linens, doing laundry and cleaning bathrooms

Medication Services

Assist with medication reminders that the client self-administers

Qualifications/Educational Requirements:

Successful completion of a Provincial-approved Personal Support Worker course

We do not accept 1-day Certification at U of T as completed license/certification. We require caregivers to have obtained at least a combined 800 hours of in-class and clinical experience.

Eligible to work in Canada without restrictions

At least six months experience as a Caregiver (in homes or facilities)

Has a Police Vulnerable Sector Reference Check or willing to obtain within 6 months

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English as needed for the job

Ability to do light-cleaning and lifting (transferring clients, re-positioning, housekeeping, and laundry)

Ability to speak another language is an asset

Obtained Food Handler's Certificate and able to cook well-balanced meals is preferable

Ability to work overnight is an asset

Driver's License (G) is an asset
