Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Chiller Service Technician to join their Applied HVAC Service Division in Austin, TX. This position will support mission-critical facilities and large commercial clients across Central Texas. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise with centrifugal and screw chillers, strong preventive maintenance and overhaul experience, and the ability to train and mentor junior technicians while ensuring safety, reliability, and exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
Perform diagnostics, service, repair, and overhauls on
centrifugal and screw chillers ranging from 100 to 7,500 tons (Carrier, Trane, York).
Service and maintain air-cooled chillers (15–500 tons), RTUs, AHUs, boilers, cooling towers, hydronic loops, and pumps.
Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, BAS/DDC systems, pneumatic controls, and variable pitch vanes.
Lead large-scale chiller teardowns and rebuilds, ensuring OEM compliance.
Provide technical guidance, field leadership, and mentorship to less experienced technicians.
Partner with management and project teams on scheduling, contract service work, and major projects.
Maintain detailed service logs, reports, and client-facing documentation.
Act as a trusted technical advisor, ensuring client satisfaction through professionalism and expertise.
Must-Have Requirements
10+ years commercial/industrial HVAC experience, with at least 5+ years focused on applied centrifugal and screw chillers.
Proven experience servicing and overhauling chillers at
1,000+ tons in commercial or mission-critical settings.
OEM training and certifications from Carrier, Trane, and/or York on large-tonnage chillers.
Strong knowledge of boilers, AHUs, hydronic loops, pumps, cooling towers, and building automation systems.
Hands-on expertise troubleshooting VFDs and advanced control systems.
Universal EPA 608 Certification required.
Valid driver’s license; ability to travel regionally as needed.
Strong communication skills and a safety-first mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in HVAC-R or equivalent trade school diploma.
Prior supervisory or lead technician experience.
Advanced certifications (vibration analysis, laser alignment, OEM specialist training).
Recognition/awards for service excellence or top technician performance.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay $46-$60 per hour and up.
