Commercial HVAC Service Technician – Class III to Class V
Location:
Charlotte, NC (Travel within Charlotte metro area)
For our established commercial HVAC client in the Charlotte metro area, we’re seeking Service Technicians (Class III, IV, and V) to join a skilled and growing service team. These roles cover a range of advanced technical work—diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing complex commercial HVAC systems, from rooftop package units to large water-cooled chillers and boilers.
Must Have Requirements
(Non-Negotiable)
4+ years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience, including DX equipment, chillers, boilers, and VAV systems
EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
Valid driver’s license
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
and troubleshoot refrigerant systems
Proficiency with variable frequency drives (VFDs)
and starters
Strong safety mindset and ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in seasonal temperature extremes
Capable of climbing ladders, lifting 50+ lbs, and working with PPE
Good to Have Requirements
(Preferred, Not Required)
HVAC Trade/Technical School certification or degree
Experience with DDC control systems and
pneumatic controls
Large chiller rebuild and rigging experience (Class V)
Pump rebuild and troubleshooting experience
Ability to mentor other technicians and provide technical support
Key Responsibilities by Classification
Class III Technician
Service and troubleshoot
5–100 ton unitary DX equipment, chilled water air handlers, CRAC units, and pneumatic/DDC controls
Perform advanced troubleshooting on unitary DX equipment and rooftop packages
Basic troubleshooting on
air-cooled chillers
and water-cooled packaged equipment
Diagnose refrigerant system and electrical issues
Basic understanding of
VFDs
and
VAV/PIU equipment
Class IV Technician
(Includes all Class III skills plus)
Troubleshoot and repair
air-cooled chillers, pumps, and
low-pressure boilers
Maintain and repair cooling towers and diagnose water flow issues
Proficient with
VFDs, starters, and low-pressure boiler systems
Basic understanding of
water-cooled chillers
and DDC control systems
Class V Technician
(Includes all Class III & IV skills plus)
Service and rebuild large
water-cooled chillers, chilled water systems, and large pumps
Diagnose and repair large boilers with power burners
Advanced troubleshooting of
VAV/PIU air distribution systems
Perform large-scale chiller rebuilds, rigging, and advanced system diagnostics
Provide technical support to other technicians
