Commissioning Engineer
Position Summary
The Commissioning Engineer will support the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities across a wide range of commercial construction projects. This individual will collaborate closely with project managers, subcontractors, design teams, and building owners to verify that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and control systems are installed, tested, and performing to specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of project commissioning plans, schedules, and documentation protocols.
- Review design drawings, specifications, and submittals to verify compliance with commissioning requirements.
- Conduct site inspections to observe system installation and identify discrepancies or potential issues.
- Execute pre-functional and functional testing of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, controls, etc.).
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and vendors to troubleshoot system deficiencies and verify corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed commissioning logs, reports, and documentation for project records.
- Support training sessions for building operators and maintenance personnel on proper system operation.
- Provide feedback to improve energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system sustainability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning processes and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commissioning, MEP coordination, or building systems engineering.
- Knowledge of commercial building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls).
- Familiarity with commissioning standards (ASHRAE, LEED, ACG, or similar) is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse project stakeholders.
- Ability to manage time effectively and balance multiple project assignments.
