Through its work to safeguard journalists, CPJ protects the rights of all people to have access to diverse and independent sources of information. Background CPJ seeks a full-time intern to assist with social media distribution for the digital team. The intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in social media publishing and scheduling, web and social analytics tools, and coordinating with programs that span the globe in a fast-paced news/advocacy-oriented environment. This is a paid position based in New York over three months with a potential extension. Who are you? You are passionate about press freedom, social media, and journalism. You like creating Instagram Stories and Twitter Moments. You are proactive and willing to take initiative. Journalism students, young journalists, and early-career social media managers who want to learn about press freedom and expand their social media expertise are invited to apply. Primary Responsibilities: * Help the digital team disseminate CPJ's editorial content-including data, daily news, special reports, video, and audio-on social media platforms and via email newsletters in alignment with the digital strategy and advocacy campaign objectives, with supervision from the Digital Manager. * Develop, maintain, and grow CPJ followers and drive engagement on major social platforms, following CPJ's social media guidelines and best practices. * Reply to social media inquiries, and refer them to their respective programs. * Help set up and prepare for the weekly digital meeting. * Assist other CPJ departments in their digital and/or social media needs. * Monitor and escalate relevant trending topics around the globe. Skills and Experience Required: * Knowledge of social media to support news dissemination, advocacy campaigning, fundraising, and audience-building. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Attention to detail. * A basic understanding of digital security. * A collaborative spirit. Preferred:

    • Experience with content management systems and social media scheduling software. * Experience in producing multimedia. * A second language is a huge plus, preferably Spanish or French. * A strong personal social media presence.
