    Committee for Children is on a mission to ensure that children everywhere can thrive. Since 1979 we've championed the cause of educating the whole child through advocacy, leadership in the field, and programs in social-emotional learning (SEL) and child safety.

    In our pursuit of positively transforming the social-emotional well-being of 100 million children annually by 2028, Committee for Children is looking for an experienced MARKETING EDITOR to join our team! In this role, you'll ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency across our many marcomm, public relations, and advocacy outlets with an eye to helping writers create inclusive, user-friendly content while maintaining our brand and voice.  This person might provide light writing support to the marcomm team, such as drafting headlines, author bios, or blog summaries, but this is not a writing position.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

    • Editing and proofreading digital and print marcomm content
    • Collaborating with marcomm content creators to shape user-friendly content that conforms to voice and style guidelines while ensuring consistency and clarity of the organization's branding language
    • Fact-checking all content to ensure it's accurate, especially any content referring to research studies or our product features
    • Communicating and/or negotiating regularly and clearly with internal and external stakeholders about project schedules, specs, style, and other editing-related issues
    • Collaborating with Editorial team members to maintain and help evolve content standards, guidelines, principles, and taxonomies, ensuring language consistency within and across products
    • Becoming knowledgeable and proficient in configuring and correcting content within our content management systems (CMS) and email programs
    • Becoming knowledgeable about and adhering to the governance processes and procedures for the CMSs; making suggestions for improvements where appropriate
    • Coordinating with the managing technical editor/content strategist and the traffic manager and consulting project management to ensure appropriate projects are prioritized, schedules are optimized, and editorial needs are met across all projects
    • Representing the editorial team at Marcomm team meetings

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a 4-year accredited college or university in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • 1–3 years of experience with web publishing, CMSs, and basic HTML
    • 3–5 years of freelance or in-house editing experience
    • Experience editing or writing marcomm content
    • Experience working within a CMS preferred
    • Experience working in a marcomm setting with both print and digital collateral strongly preferred

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Knowledge of the mechanics and application of all levels of editorial work: writing, developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading for both print and web
    • Thorough understanding of grammar, style, and current English usage
    • Working understanding of the Chicago Manual of Style, ability to use and adhere to a style guide, and ability to edit to a variety of style specifications and audiences
    • Excellent fact-checking skills with strong attention to detail
    • Experience working in a CMS or with asset management required
    • Familiarity with WordPress required; familiarity with Contentful, Marketo, and Constant Contact a plus
    • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, including use of the style palette, and basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook
    • Working knowledge of project management software required
    • Ability to work collaboratively with teams to meet collective goals and deadlines and maintain strong relationships across the organization
    • Comfortable working with multiple teams on varying timelines and needs at once, seeing the big picture, anticipating roadblocks, and planning ahead
    • Enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to learn
    • Ability to thrive in a growing organization
