Position Title: Communication Coordinator
Organization: Outdoor Amusement Business Association (OABA) Position Type: Part-time (20 hours per week) Mostly virtual, in office for staff meeting once a week.

About Outdoor Amusement Business Association (OABA): The Outdoor Amusement Business Association (OABA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the outdoor amusement industry. Our organization represents carnival operators, ride manufacturers, concessionaires, and suppliers, working to advocate for industry interests, providing resources to members, and ensuring safety and excellence in outdoor amusement experiences.
Position Overview: The communications Coordinator is responsible for member communications including a weekly e newsletter, a monthly magazine publication and an annual membership directory.
Key Responsibilities:
Weekly Publication (Tuesday at 7:00 pm) electronic newsletter called XTRA. Basically, a template-based newsletter where current news/information is inserted in the top 3 to 5 stories. The rest is advertising and information that does not change often. Responsible for uploading and distributing to the membership.
Monthly Publication (11 issues per year) 32-page color magazine called ShowTime. There is a core of authors for various subjects. The theme of the magazine changes monthly, which sometimes involves guest writers. We have a graphic artist who creates the magazine and a printer to produce it. The hardest part is getting the articles from the authors in a timely fashion and then uploading them to the graphic artist.
Annual Publication 184-page Midway Marquee Directory. Most of the publication is the export of membership listings in different categories. One section summarizes the previous years’ activities in a variety of subjects and events from various authors. Again, the graphic artist and printer take care of the actual publication. There is a fair amount of coordination confirming authors and having individuals make deadlines.
Scholarship Program – Responsible for coordinating the receiving of applications and compiling the information in a spreadsheet. Distribution to members of the scholarship committee. Informing applicants of the decisions and requesting checks.
Event Organization – Assist in the preparation of major meetings and fundraisers. Communicate with potential participants and donors.
Qualifications:
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to make deadlines.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and the ability to learn Wild Apricot membership database software.
· Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
The communications coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the operations and member services of OABA. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
