The New Jersey Association of Mental Health and Addiction Agencies, Inc. (NJAMHAA) is seeking a Communications Specialist who will report directly to the organization’s Vice President of Public Affairs. This is a full-time position and will be scheduled for 40 hours a week. The position will follow a hybrid work structure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Core duties and responsibilities of this support role include the following activities and work products: drafting of correspondence and other materials as assigned; drafting, writing and distributing an electronic newsletter three times a week; heavy social media postings; membership outreach; and liaison to several practice groups and external committees; and membership database maintenance.
Public Relations:
- Conduct interviews and draft and write articles for Association publications, as assigned. These include a tri-weekly electronic newsletter, quarterly member feature/advocacy publication, and drafting sections of reports.
- Assist the Vice President of Public Affairs and Member Services in devising and implementing a social media plan to support advocacy and membership marketing.
- Provide marketing support, including drafting, writing, editing and proofreading for the Association, NJAMHAA’s IT Project, and the New Jersey Mental Health Institute (NJMHI) including, but not limited to, promotion of these entities and their trainings, conferences and other services, events and initiatives through promotional literature, the NJAMHAA and NJMHI websites, social media, newsletters and other means.
- Support public relations, including the drafting, editing, proofreading, distribution and follow-up of media alerts and press releases, as well as newsletters, logos, and other materials; and dissemination and posting on the website and social media outlets under the direction of the Vice President of Public Affairs and Member Services and the President and CEO.
- Provide support and follow-up and act as liaison to practice groups, councils and committees, as assigned. Complete prep and follow-up activities, including drafting of correspondence and invitations, tracking of invitation responses, and drafting meeting minutes.
- Assist in drafting and distributing written communications consistent with NJAMHAA’s positions in order to influence policy makers and assist with communicating state and federal legislative updates to all members, as assigned.
Member Services :
Under the direction of the VP of Public Affairs and Member Services and President and CEO:
- Develop promotional literature and new member services.
- Respond to informational inquiries regarding NJAMHAA member services; assist in recruiting members; and encourage current members’ active involvement in the Association’s committees, conferences, etc.
- Conduct membership outreach, distribute membership packets, and assist with other member related services.
Other:
- Represent NJAMHAA on external committees and share information with staff.
- Fill in for other members of the Association staff to become cross-trained to perform other duties, including providing front desk coverage or assistance, and support for conference activities as needed, and other duties as assigned.
- Complete other assignments as requested by the President and Chief Executive Officer, Vice President of Public Affairs and Member Services, Vice President of Information Technology, Human Resources and Administrative Services and/or Senior Health Policy Analyst.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree or at least three (3) years of experience in a related field (e.g., communications, social work, psychology) and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong computer skills, including full knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Expertise in using social media
- A record of reliability and excellent attendance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work as a team member and independently
- Should be enthusiastic, flexible, customer service oriented, detail oriented, very organized, and should be able to work under tight time constraints and to take initiative.
