    General Summary

    Under direct supervision, performs dental hygiene and a variety of related tasks. Provides dental care; and assists in the implementation of the Quality Assurance Program. Ensures all patient information is kept secure and confidential. Must have excellent communication and people skills. Must work well with others and have good manual dexterity.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Review the patient’s health history, dental charting, oral analysis, record blood pressure in evaluation for dental hygiene treatment.

    Expose, process, and interprets dental x-rays.

    Remove plaque and calculus from above and below the gum line of the teeth.

    Provide non-surgical treatment of periodontal disease.

    Apply cavity-preventive agents such as fluorides and sealants to the teeth.

    Apply therapeutic agents for the treatment of periodontal disease.

    Teach patients proper oral hygiene techniques to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

    Counsel patients about disease control and developing individualized at-home oral hygiene programs.

    Counsel patients on the importance of good nutrition for maintaining optimal oral health.

    Provide local anesthesia.

    Any other duty as assigned by the immediate Supervisor.

    Work Experience

    Employment in a medical office or Public Health clinic

    Education/Certifications/Licensure

    Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene from an Accredited Institution and Licensed by the State of Texas

    Valid driver's License and a safe driving record

    Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and a criminal history background check

    Skills

    Comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care

    Knowledge of public health principles and practices

    Knowledge of principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations and community health programs as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary dental care

    Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

    Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
