Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Prevention, the Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for delivering HIV/STI testing, prevention education, outreach, and linkage-to-care services in both clinical and community settings. This role is essential in increasing access to care, engaging high-risk populations, and supporting individuals through education and connection to services.
Key Responsibilities
HIV/STI Testing & Prevention Services
Conduct HIV and STI testing using rapid and conventional methods
Provide pre- and post-test counseling in accordance with best practices
Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of all testing activities
Deliver prevention education and behavioral interventions in individual and group settings
Community Outreach & Engagement
Conduct outreach in high-need areas such as community centers, shelters, campuses, and events
Identify and engage high-risk populations and venues
Build and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders
Represent the organization at health fairs, outreach events, and community initiatives
Event Planning & Execution
Plan, coordinate, and support community events focused on HIV/STI awareness and prevention
Manage event logistics including setup, coordination, and breakdown
Track participation and engagement for reporting and evaluation
Client Support & Linkage to Care
Connect clients to medical care, PrEP services, mental health resources, and substance use support
Assist with scheduling appointments and making appropriate referrals
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA guidelines
Administrative & Reporting
Complete outreach reports, data collection, and required documentation in a timely manner
Support program goals, grant deliverables, and performance metrics
Maintain outreach materials, supplies, and inventory
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public health, Health Education, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
Certification in HIV Testing and Counseling and/or Fundamentals of HIV Prevention preferred
Experience in HIV prevention, testing, or community outreach
Familiarity with Ryan White programs is a plus
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Comfortable working with diverse populations in community-based settings
