    Position: Community Environmental Coordinator

    Location: 240 Cadwell Drive, Springfield, MA 01104

    Reports to: Senior Manager of Critical Repairs

    Standard Hours- Mon-Fri 8-4

    Position Description:

    Revitalize CDC is seeking a qualified candidate to support the development and implementation of community programs in focus neighborhoods. The Community Sustainability Outreach Coordinator will support two complementary initiatives aimed at improving environmental and public health outcomes in environmental justice neighborhoods of Chicopee and Holyoke. Through the DCR Greening the Gateway Cities Program (GGCP), the position assists with expanding the urban tree canopy to reduce energy use, mitigate heat islands, and enhance neighborhood livability. Simultaneously, under the Mass Save Community Education Grant, the role promotes energy efficiency awareness, connects residents to weatherization and energy retrofit programs, and helps track outreach impacts.

    This hands-on role bridges fieldwork, outreach, and education, helping residents understand how trees and energy efficiency work together to create healthier, more sustainable homes and communities.

    Greening the Gateway Cities

    Assist DCR crews and partners with tree planting, watering, mulching, and maintenance in target neighborhoods.

    Conduct door-to-door outreach to encourage residents to request free trees and learn about their benefits.

    Record tree data (species, location, survival rates) using mobile tools or GIS-based systems.

    Help coordinate volunteer and community planting events with city staff and nonprofit partners.

    Support follow-up visits to ensure healthy tree establishment and care.

    Energy Education

    Deliver community education and outreach around home energy efficiency, including Mass Save, weatherization, and energy retrofit opportunities.

    Distribute educational materials at community events, workshops, and door-to-door campaigns.

    Assist residents in navigating Mass Save assessments and connecting with approved contractors.

    Track outreach metrics, participation, and outcomes for grant reporting.

    Collaborate with energy partners such as HomeWorks Energy, Valley Opportunity Council, and local municipalities.

    Qualifications:

    Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite, as well as data collection, capture and tracking methods

    Ability to organize and maintain appropriate records and documentation

    Excellent oral and written presentation skills

    Ability to think creatively with excellent problem-solving skills

    Willingness to be flexible, adaptable and work as a team with clients, volunteers and staff

    This position requires frequent sitting, standing, traveling, walking, talking or listening and driving.

    Additional appropriate education or related experience may be substituted for certifications

    Sensitivity to cultural diversity and the needs of individuals with low-incomes

    Interest or background in environmental studies, sustainability, forestry, or energy efficiency.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university desired;

    Experience with community engagement, knowledge of populations we serve

    Springfield resident

    Spanish language proficiency desired;

    Knowledge of safe and healthy homes and critical home repairs

    Independent self-starter, detail oriented, works well with people of diverse backgrounds, has a solid work ethic and high integrity as well as the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations.

    Specific Requirements:

    This position will be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. The incumbent must maintain access to a motor vehicle and possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Massachusetts. This position requires Flu vaccine, COVID-19 vaccine and booster.
