    Job Description

    Our Community Nutritionists (RDs) work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing nutrition intervention and counseling to a diverse patient population. The nutritionist may also plan, organize oversee and/or facilitate nutrition related events, activities, and workshops. 

    JOB FUNCTION:  

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

    1. Evaluates and monitors patients’ nutritional status.

    2. Conducts nutrition education and counseling sessions.

    3. Organizes and develops nutritional care plans and individualized therapeutic diets as needed.

    4. Completes necessary reports and forms and documents patient services in the appropriate medical record.

    5. Facilitates related services for health center clients as appropriate with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.

    6. Organizes and distributes nutrition education materials.

    7. Identifies resources for nutrition education materials and services as needed.

    8. Conferences with the Director of Nutrition as necessary to seek consultation and share information that is pertinent to patient care.

    9. Plans, conducts and participates in nutrition education presentations, workshops and health fairs for the agency.

    10. Attends conferences and participates in trainings/informal sessions as requested by Director of Nutrition.

    11. Participates in clinic and central office team meetings as designated.

    12. Directs prenatal clients to local WIC offices and aids with their admission into the program.

    13. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIRED:  

    • All of our Nutritionists must be Registered Dietitians (RD).   
    • New York State licensure preferred.
    • Minimum of B.S. in Nutrition or Health Education with experience.
    • BILINGUAL SPANISH STRONGLY PREFERRED

        KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: •    1 to 2 years nutritional experience in a clinical/community health setting. •    Ability to develop nutrition materials/literature and facilitate educational sessions. •    Strong written and verbal communication skills. •    Interest in and conviction of purpose and aims for all programs in the Agency. •    Respect for the rights of individuals to make their own decisions about their medical care. •    Ability to communicate easily and display a cordial manner towards individuals from a variety of socio-economic, cultural and religious background.
