    **** Community Schools Navigator

    Position Summary: Within an individual school, facilitates the development, implementation, and management/operations of Community School (CS) activities, events, programs, and services. This community school approach will lead to increased student achievement, stronger families, and healthier neighborhoods.

    Reports to: The Community Schools Navigator will work under the direct supervision of the Community Schools Zone Leaders or the Community Schools Program Director. This individual will also work closely with the assigned Buffalo Public Schools building administration.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Responsible for collaboratively preparing, implementing, and monitoring a Community School plan for an individual Buffalo Public School

    • Serves as the lead for all community partnerships in the school

    • Participates in the Community Zone Leadership Team meetings

    • Leads the individual Community School Leadership meetings for school administration and Community School partners

    • Working with the Community Schools Zone Leader, recruits and coordinates the activities of organizations, colleges, businesses (county and city) willing to offer programs and services at the school to meet the needs of students, families, and community members

    • Performs administrative tasks for the day-to-day management and coordination of activities

    • Develops an asset map to plan the Community School programming, and to align and coordinate existing services within the school

    • Use of data, both qualitative and quantitative, to plan Community Schools programming and guide high-quality program development

    • Works with school administration to plan Community Schools programming

    • Ensures partners use the Say Yes Buffalo Student Management System to capture program outcomes

    • Coordination of Saturday Academy

    • Develops, maintains, and nurtures relationships with school administration and staff, parents, family members, neighborhood residents, and the community

    • Develops, connects, and implements programs that increase student outcomes, including academic performance, attendance, and behavior

    • Develops, connects, and implements programs that increase parent/guardian engagement in the schools

    • Supports the schools in implementing the following:

    • Schedules of community partners at the school site
    • Designing and managing volunteer systems within the school

    • Responsible for conducting data analysis of Community Schools outcomes, from the Student Management System, including preparing data reports for the Buffalo Public Schools, Say Yes Buffalo, and school administration

    • Participates and coordinates training and professional development

    • Performs other duties as assigned by Zone Leader/Program Director

    • Works with Principal, Zone leader, and Program Director to develop a strategic funding plan and implement site-level resource development

    • Manage school-based Community Schools budget

    • Serve on the school leadership team

    Skills Required:

    • An associate’s degree in a human services field with at least three (3) years of community-based experience, including supervisory experience

    • Valid NYS Driver’s License

    • Proven skills in leadership, group facilitation, coordination, marketing, budgeting, data collection and project management

    • Knowledge of community resources

    • Broad understanding of positive youth development and family strengthening practices

    • Ability to build community partnerships and maintain working relationships

    • Ability to collaborate with school, district and community leaders, and to convene partners and facilitate meetings

    • Ability to collect and analyze data to inform decisions

    • Working knowledge of program-based budgeting and request for proposals administration

    • Past project management experience

    • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work with a diverse group of people

    • Ability to organize, prioritize, and respond to deadlines while working on multiple tasks

    • Effective oral and written communication skills

    • Exhibits the ability to be a creative thinker and a self-starter
