    Community and Family Resources is seeking an Outreach Mental Health Therapist in Des Moines. This position is based at the Central Iowa Shelter Services 100% in person.  This position will see clients at the shelter and enroll clients into CFR services, as well as provide services to shelter clients.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Conducts clinical assessments and provides diagnosis, treatment and referrals when indicated
    • Carries a treatment caseload; provides psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups as appropriate; starts and ends sessions on time; and maintains consumer confidentiality
    • Regularly schedules and provides emergency services
    • Actively participates in therapy unit planning and functioning
    • Accurately and punctually completes needed clinical documentation and insurance authorization requests
    • Provides education to the community as requested
    • Provides consultative services to the community as requested
    • Providing services in a satellite location may be an expectation
    • Maintains appropriate client and pre-client case records
    • Provides clients and families with referral resources for the services not provided by this agency or when this agency’s services are not appropriate
    • Provides training for agency staff in areas of own expertise
    • Participates in coordination of community awareness programs concerning behavioral health
    • Provides community education about behavioral treatment

    SCHEDULE:

    • Type: Full-time
    • Hours: 40 hours each week, generally Monday-Friday during regular business hours and requires one evening each week.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree or PhD from an accredited university in the social or behavioral sciences is required.
    • Current Iowa Licensure as a Psychologist, Independent Social Worker, Mental Health Counselor or Marriage and Family Therapist is required.
    • Current certification as a substance abuse counselor (CADC or IADC) is preferred.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of the theories, principles, and techniques of mental health and substance abuse treatment (co-occurring treatment)
    • Knowledge of the theories, principles and techniques of supervision.
    • Familiarity with local resources.
    • Knowledge of quality assurance, utilization review, and program evaluation.
    • Knowledge of the principles of recording and report writing.
    • Knowledge of 42CFR and how it applies to Community & Family Resources.
    • Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.
    • Knowledge of IDPH licensure standards.
    • Some knowledge of public/private welfare, health care, and other agencies available in the area served by this agency.
    • Ability to establish good working relationships with clients and staff.
    • Ability to discern and report relevant client information to clinical staff for appropriate management of client care.
    • Ability to complete written reports and form completion in a timely manner and accurate manner as needed.
    • Must possess basic computer skills and the ability to document client information, as requested or required into the computer system.
    • Due to the variety of changing tasks, the individual will need to be flexible and assist in other duties as assigned.
    • The ability to maintain the confidentiality of client information as mandated by various federal and state laws.
    • The staff member may be required to work at any agency building as needed/directed and be responsible for own transportation.
    • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, regularly, and fluently in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are preferred but not required.
    • Ability to move between agency buildings, from office to office, to enable conferring with other staff members,
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals,
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or agency employees.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • The staff member is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
    • The staff member is occasionally required to stand and walk.
    • The staff member may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
    • The staff member must have the ability to move within and between agency buildings, standing, sitting, lifting and manipulating objects typically found in this work environment.
    • The staff member may be required to work at any agency building as needed/directed and be responsible for her/his own transportation.
    • The staff member may experience traumatic situations including hostile clients, clients’ family members, and/or responsible parties.
    • The staff member may be required to work extended periods of time at a video display terminal (VDT).
    • The staff member must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.

    This position will be supervised by an experienced LISW who is certified in Play Therapy, as well as other techniques.  She offers the opportunity to grow your experience at your own pace.
