    Job Description

    Commvault is seeking a Corporate Development Leader. This role will be the executive team’s primary resource for identifying, sourcing, and executing a range of strategic M&A initiatives to help Commvault achieve our medium to long-term growth goals.  This position will own identifying, generating, managing and executing acquisitions, minority investments and select strategic partnerships across the company. The position offers the opportunity to build the fundamental framework for key strategic areas of growth for the company.  The Corporate Development role is a highly influential and visible position that engages with Commvault’s most senior leaders frequently.  This position entails combining elements of strategy, M&A sourcing, and transaction management across an innovative and fast-moving technology space. 

    We are looking for an experienced Corporate Development professional who will boldly seek out opportunities to advance the growth initiatives of our businesses. The candidate will act as a key leader in supporting Commvault’s growth plans by conducting industry research on adjacent markets, valuation analyses, due diligence, creation of strategic presentations / recommendations, acquisition term sheets and contract negotiations.  The position is based in the Silicon Valley and there will be a particular emphasis on supporting transactions in the emerging technology sectors and building external relationships with the startup and venture communities. We are seeking an innovative, creative, analytical and strategic thinker.  The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex problems, works effectively with cross-functional teams, and thrives in a fast-paced setting that is constantly evolving.

    ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • CONSULTANT- Identifies markets, determines the feasibility of business development, performs economic analysis on new opportunities
    • TECH SPACE GURU- Keen awareness of tech market landscape including emerging startup companies, market shares, relative competitive advantage, and business models.  Creates business opportunities, assessing potential markets and developing technologies
    • DEAL MAKER- Identifies, investigates and evaluates acquisitions, licensing opportunities and strategic business alliances that are in line with the Company’s long-range goals.
    • COMMUNICATOR- Presents views in a clear and compelling manner and adapts approach to specific target audiences
    • DATA EXPERT- Delivers analytically rigorous insights to support strategic direction and investment prioritization
    • COLLABORATOR- Personable and builds relationships, a good listener with outstanding interpersonal influencing qualities with a natural consultative style
    • FINANCIAL WIZARD_-_ Problem solves with strong business, commercial and financial acumen.  Very strong financial modeling skills and analytical abilities

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA from a top tier school is highly desirable
    • 7-10+ years’ experience in corporate development, private equity or venture investing in technology sectors  Broad business experience evaluating markets and business opportunities
    • Experience identifying, developing, analyzing and successfully executing M&A transactions
    • End-to-end transaction negotiation experience
    • Expertise in creating business cases, and conducting company and industry due diligence to support investment or strategic business development activities
    • Excellent oral and written skills to communicate complex issues and influence others internally and externally
    • Experience aligning and driving cross-functional groups with demonstrable leadership skills in a team environment where team members are not direct reports
    • Possess passion for technology, deep understanding of technology landscape and key trends
    • Ability to develop and present compelling business cases in a persuasive and engaging manner
