Compass is recruiting for a Chief of Staff for EVP Delivery for our Compass Dallas, TX (preferred) or Toronto, Canada office.
Responsibilities:
• EVP Delivery's eyes and ears in the day-to-day performance of the Delivery team; looks out for gaps, violations/deviations, areas for improvement, or inconsistencies in Compass Program execution globally. Provides the negative feedback loop to the EVP Delivery when identifying behaviors, gaps, or violations that do not align with the Compass Culture or Strategic Anchors.
• Exercises exceptional discretion and discernment in all matters.
• Helps the EVP Delivery prioritize projects to ensure that the team is only moving forward with the most important, and impactful, work that is directly aligned with our Strategic Anchors.
• Develops and maintains a highly reliable and real-time project reporting structure that makes it possible for the EVP Delivery to always know the budget and schedule status of every project.
• Stands in on meetings on behalf of the EVP Delivery; offers a deeper analysis of issues and follows up on action items with the team. Eventually will serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor to the EVP Delivery.
• Manages the Delivery team's program execution of:
o Gate Reviews
o Program processes
o Upstream engagement
• Oversees projects on EVP Delivery's behalf that do not fit neatly within the Delivery organization or fall between functional areas of responsibility.
• Firefighter when needed; investigate issues and solve problems when called upon.
• Add structure and process for better communication within the Delivery team and across other functions.
• Acts on EVP Delivery's behalf for greater visibility and accessibility to prevent bottlenecking and promote decision-making.
• Manages staffing partners (Sr CMs and CMs) and contractor pipeline
o Master agreements
o SOWs and POs for contractor hires
o Sourcing and interviewing candidates
o Negotiating rates
o Forecasting upcoming needs and opening up searches with staffing partners
• Manages onboarding program for new CMs and Compass employees.
What You Need To Succeed:
• Objective, steady and clear-headed. Keeps the EVP Delivery fully informed of budget and schedule status for every project and immediately escalates all risks.
• Discernment: Provides sound recommendations and options that are rooted in making the right decisions for the business through our Compass Culture and Strategic Anchors.
• Defender and Champion of Compass Culture. Ensures team behaviors align with our culture and that our culture tools are used appropriately.
• Actions and Words are One. Fanatical about achieving results and honoring our commitments to internal and external partners.
• Curious and humble. Willing to learn the Compass Way, draw from their experience, and leverage the ‘5 Whys' to deeply understand multiple stakeholder perspectives to provide the EVP Delivery with information and options.
• Excellent communicator who can adapt to different audiences and listen to understand the issues and needs. Able to stay in tough conversations and facilitate productive solutions and next steps. Able to explain complex issues succinctly and factually, without assumptions or generalizations.
• This role requires extreme organization and the ability to juggle multiple projects in a growing company.
• 10-15 years in commercial real estate development with construction experience preferred.
• Candidate will be based in the Compass Dallas, TX (preferred) or Toronto, Canada office.
