    YOUR MISSION:

    A Special Education PAICE Teacher Fellow (paraprofessional) may be a great opportunity for someone on the path to teaching and is passionate about working with students with special needs. Under the general supervision of the Special Education Teacher, you would provide instruction to students and perform a variety of tasks relating to the physical and behavioral needs of students in a classroom setting. 

    PAICE stands for: Practicing Academics, Independence, and Community Exploration 

    The Compass Rose PAICE program is a specialized program that assists students in developing functional academic skills, communication, self-help, physical, and functional living skills in order to attain maximum independence which involves students directly and actively in the learning process.  

    YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Depending on the students' individualized education plans, responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

    • Instructional delivery and assessment of student lessons
    • Work with students to master specified IEP goals
    • Analyze student work and track progress data
    • Provide daily intervention for a small group of students
    • Provide individual instruction/tutoring both inside and outside of the classroom setting
    • Assist Special Education teacher with English, Life Skills, Social Skills and Math classes taught/delivered in a self-contained classroom
    • Counsel students 
    • Participate in ARD committee meetings
    • Monitor students during recess or lunch
    • Provide assistance of daily living which may include personal care, hygiene, feeding, lifting, and/or toileting
    • Monitor behavior and implement restorative behavior practices
    • Work with other support personnel: Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, Physical Therapists
    • Other duties as assigned

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Perform several tasks concurrently under varying deadlines  
    • Exercise tact, good judgment, and initiative in dealing with students, staff, and parents.  
    • Skill in operating computers and peripheral or assistive equipment  
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing  
    • Identify sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Associates degree or a minimum of 48 college hours
    • Experience in a classroom highly preferred

    WORK CALENDAR:

    • 10 months
    • Non - exempt
