    LOCATION: Compass Rose Legacy Middle School and High School

    YOUR MISSION:

    You serve as the first line of defense in identifying and addressing student social/emotional needs within the school setting. You have unique training in helping scholars with social/emotional issues that may become barriers to academic success. You will develop a school counseling curriculum, deliver small-group counseling, and provide appraisal and advisement directed at improving a student's social/emotional well-being. As advocates for students, you promote a positive, culturally responsive environment that enhances students' ability to properly manage the social/emotional demands of their lives.

    YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    Counseling

    • Collect and analyze data to determine student and program needs and program goals for the continuous improvement of a balanced comprehensive school counseling program
    • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required 
    • Provide group guidance and social skills activities for student related to topics such as self-awareness, bullying prevention, and social awareness
    • Facilitate learners' ability to achieve their potential by helping them set and attain challenging social-emotional goals
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide the school counseling curriculum to all students

     

    Coordination

    • Serve as a referral source for students when social/emotional issues become too great to be dealt with solely by the school counselor, including crisis interventions
    • Facilitate learner access to community resources
    • Facilitate parent information and support groups as needed.
    • Participate in IEP and ARD meetings to facilitate communication regarding student needs where appropriate.

    Student Assessment

    • Identify and employ appropriate appraisal methods for individual and group interventions that support 5th–10th grade students' social/emotional development

    Leadership

    • Assist in the formulation of campus and district goals and objectives addressing the social-emotional needs of students.
    • Plan, participate, and/or lead professional development sessions for teachers in social-emotional aspects of students.
    • Coordinate school-wide programs that recognize positive student behavior and restorative practices.
    • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission, core values, and core habits of the school district.

    Advocacy

    • Advocates for a school environment in which diversity is acknowledged and respected, resulting in positive interactions across all cultures.
    • Understands learner differences including those related to cultural background, gender, ethnicity, and learning styles, and know ways to create and maintain a positive school environment that is responsive to all learners.

    YOU HAVE:

    • At least 2 years of classroom experience
    • Hold a master's degree from an institution of higher education that is accredited by an accrediting agency as recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
    • Hold a valid Texas counselor certification

     

    WORK CALENDAR: 

    • 10 month, non - exempt
