Job Title: Compensation Analyst II
Job Locations: Norfolk, VA
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
Payrate: $30/Hr
Description:
The Compensation Analyst II will take on more responsibility in conducting comprehensive job evaluations, market research, and developing compensation strategies. The position will contribute to the design and implementation of salary structures, incentive programs, and classification framework
Essential Functions Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Demonstrates proficiency in interpreting and applying the city policies pertaining to compensation functions, civil service commission rules, and the City’s Compensation Plan
Input and updates compensation plan changes in the human resources information system (HRIS)
Maintains integrity of the HRIS system by ensuring accurate and consistent input for position management data requests according to policies and
procedures. Performs monthly audits of the HRIS system to address discrepancies for position management data
Independently reviews and verifies class specifications submitted by departments. Inputs class specifications into software
Reviews and investigate complex requests for reclassifications. Plans and conducts audits and coordinates discussions with incumbents and supervisors. Prepares comprehensive reports of findings and recommendations
Demonstrates proficiency in interpreting the Fair Labor Standards Act
conducts salary surveys and provides information in response to internal and external benchmarking studies
Review class specifications to determine Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status
Provides an initial review of salary-related requests. Conduct analysis and provide a recommendation
Answers complex queries received in the team-shared inbox
Performs other duties as assigned
Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Five years of experience working directly in the areas of employee compensation and classification or closely related experience
Certifications and Other Requirements
Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Society for Human Resource Management-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, and strong in data management.
