Job Details :
Provides detailed auditable estimates by conducting an analysis of all bidding
documents to arrive at the most accurate estimate possible of the probable cost, consistent with
the bidding time available, the completeness and accuracy of the bidding documents and the
available cost data of the company. Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, reports,
photos and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects,
or services by performing the following duties noted herein. Assembles CPM schedules for
projects. Provides detailed cost for material, equipment, labor, subcontractor & other job-related
cost. Exports purchase orders from estimate utilizing Sage 100. Authors initial subcontract
scopes of work to attach or include in subcontracts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

assigned.
Reviews data such as plans, specifications, reports, photographs etc. to determine
material, labor requirements, and prepare itemized lists.
Use quantitative techniques to analyze factors that influence cost.
Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data to
evaluate whether to perform work with own forces or subcontract work.
Estimate specialty work to compare to subcontract bids to determine if subcontractor
pricing is reasonable.
Measures areas of buildings and facilities to ascertain work scope if no plans exist or if
plans do not provide required dimensions, obtaining those dimensions.
Computes cost factors and prepares detailed estimates used for management purposes
such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting
subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.
Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data
for effect cost reductions.
Consults with clients, architects, engineers, designers, draftspersons, project managers
etc. or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Establish competitive hourly rates for trade workers including all taxes, benefits, etc.
Reviews all estimates assembled by other estimators, suggesting, or making any
adjustments deemed necessary prior to submitting to management for review.
Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for
large projects.
Analyzing documents, specifications, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding
of the project.
Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
Preparing material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service.
Creating detailed labor estimates for any project
Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors
Managing bids from vendors and contractors
Using bid data to prepare detailed a cost analysis.
Presenting prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders
Reviewing actual cost records to compare to estimated costs utilizing Sage 100
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
HIERARCHY :
Works directly with Project Manager or Operations Assistant in the preparation of bid
documents. Answers to and receives instructions from Project Manager or President.
AUTHORITATIVE ACTIONS: Ability to make decisions without the necessity of obtaining
approval from a superior. Authority may be delegated to others.
A. Communicating with subcontractors and suppliers.
B. Obtaining prices
C. Requesting bidding clarifications from the designer to be addressed by addenda.
D. Work with in-house architects and engineers to assist with design decisions by assembling
various means of cost for design decisions to be made.
Must have :
SOFTWARE: Experienced with Sage 100 Estimating software, MS Excell, Plan swift, MS Word,
Microsoft Project, Xactimate
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to
finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or
hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. The employee is occasionally
required to walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift
and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to
adjust focus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference,
and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts
such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Excellent
analytical skills and attention to detail.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :
Preferably a B.S. Degree - Preferably Construction Engineering Technology with at least
5 years Field Experience and at least 15 years of estimating experience. Must be
knowledgeable of the various methods of construction involved with Commercial,
Institutional, Religious, Medical construction & renovation, Commercial Insurance repairs.
Must be able to perform detailed quantity takeoffs on itemized material, equipment, and
labor, within the major CSI categories for jobs ranging up to $ 10,000,000.00. Must be
knowledgeable in the use of computerized-digitized takeoff/estimating systems. Report
writing and strategic planning skills.
Payrate : Depends on experience
Schedule : 8am - 5pm
