Salary Range: $118,000–$136,000 annually

Position Summary

The core purpose of this role is to ensure the safe, lawful, and ethically responsible management of medical waste from point of origin to final disposal. By maintaining strict alignment with environmental, health, and transportation regulations (such as OSHA, EPA, and DOT), this position protects the workforce, safeguards public health, and shields the organization from legal and financial liability. Ultimately, the role serves as a critical defense layer, transforming complex regulatory demands into practical, daily safety protocols that mitigate environmental risks and cultivate an incident-free operational culture.

Key Elements of the Role

• National Oversight: Standardizes safety protocols across all multi-state disposal facilities and transportation fleets.

• Dual Accountability: Bridges daily field operations with board-level governance, reporting to the National Operations Director while retaining an independent line to the CSR Committee and the authority to escalate directly when standards are at risk.

• Regulatory Mastery: Anchors company operations in strict compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT and other Federal, State and Local standards.

• Risk Mitigation: Identifies enterprise-level operational hazards before they result in financial or legal penalties.

• Operational Support

Core Responsibilities

** Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Leadership**

• Develop, implement, and oversee EHS strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.

• Drive a strong safety culture through leadership, coaching, and behavior‑based safety practices.

• Conduct incident investigations (including near‑misses and first aids) using structured root‑cause analysis methods (5 Whys, Fishbone).

• Lead EHS compliance audits, risk assessments, and hazard evaluations across all sites/divisions.

• Perform industrial hygiene assessments, including exposure monitoring for chemical, physical, and biological hazards.

• Analyze safety data, track KPIs, and prepare reporting using advanced Excel or EHS platforms.

** Organizational Risk and Compliance Management & Governance**

• Further develop, implement, and maintain the organization‑wide CSR management system, including reporting to the CSR Committee and coordination of all Committee meetings.

• Establish compliance policies, standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and tools across the company.

• Maintain compliance documentation and records; monitor regulatory changes and communicate impacts to leadership.

• Support integration of new services, sites or workstreams into compliance programs.

• Assist in developing internal controls and process documentation to support scalable growth.

• Identify strategic, operational, regulatory, and reputational risks.

• Maintain the organization’s risk register and conduct periodic risk assessments

• Recommend risk mitigation strategies and monitor implementation.

** Internal Audit & Investigations**

• Develop annual audit plans and conduct operational and regulatory compliance audits.

• Evaluate adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.

• Issue audit reports, track corrective actions, and verify completion.

• Conduct or oversee investigations involving compliance concerns and perform root‑cause analyses.

• Facilitate corrective action plans and verify effectiveness.

** Training & Partnership**

• Establish compliance and EHS training requirements across the organization.

• Develop and deliver training programs to promote regulatory awareness and promote safety protocols.

• Track and maintain the mandatory training schedule for all required staff

• Partner with leadership to interpret regulatory requirements and evaluate compliance risks associated with new initiatives.

• Support regulatory inspections, audits, and external agency interactions.

• Standardize business processes and improve internal controls.

• Provide guidance and oversight without assuming operational responsibility for regulated activities.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have’s

• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and relevant regulatory frameworks in the context of medical or hazardous waste management

• Experience conducting audits, investigations, and root‑cause analyses.

• Proven leadership abilities with experience influencing cross‑functional teams.

• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree

• Experience: Minimum of 7 years in environmental health, safety, compliance, or risk management leadership

Would be Nice:

• CSP - Certified Safety Professional designation through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

• CHMM - Certified Hazardous Materials Manager credential

• OSHA - Completion of OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training course.

• DOT - Certification in Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials regulations.
