Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
JOB SUMMARY
In accordance with agency Mission, Vision, Values and Goals, provides direct medical/psychiatric services to clients who require psychiatric assessment, medication prescriptions, monitoring, follow up, and referral for additional care.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Evaluates patients by interviewing patient and other available persons; conducts examinations; observes behaviors; reviews medical history and related documents; orders laboratory tests and evaluating results as appropriate and makes referrals to medical providers as needed.
Develops treatment recommendations by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishing treatment goals in coordination with the treatment team and methodologies.
Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; supervising staff provision of services.
Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events; writing summaries and maintains required productivity standards.

Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, CARF requirements, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews; remaining available for emergency consultations.
Participates with treatment team in treatment planning and signing all necessary records for assigned clients, in a medically appropriate and timely fashion. Monitors treatment and facilitates client discharge at completion of treatment and / or once client is stabilized.
Participates in and meets ethical/agency standards regarding all treatment and documentation practices, QM procedures, utilization management,emergency procedures, and program/client outcomes. Provides billing information accurately and timely as required.
Follows all agency policies and procedures including emergency and corporate compliance policies/procedures 100% of the time.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
May meet with pharmaceutical representatives for medication education and information, and to assist with obtaining sample medications for CMHS clients.
Consults with Medical Director as designated in collaborative agreement directives (APRN’s only)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
APRN -Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. In addition, must have advanced practice certification.
Psychiatrist - Doctor degree in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited university or
Experience:
APRN - Must have at least two years’ experience in a mental health setting.
Psychiatrist - Completed residency
Licensure:
APRN - APRN / NP certification in Missouri; DEA certificate in Missouri
Psychiatrist – MD or DO license in State of Missouri and Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drug license in State of Missouri; DEA certificate in Missouri.

REQUIREMENTS
Licensure used as proof of professional development attendance.
All providers must gain/maintain 3 hours every year of training in the area of Cultural Competency.
