    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY

    This position performs Tier 3 level (expert level) technical and testing support for our client throughout a program's life-cycle (requirements development, design, development, component and system integration, system testing, and acceptance testing).

    DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Apply best practices as a technical leader for Velocity and Pulse new installations, new releases, upgrades, and enhancements to existing systems.
    • Able to perform Velocity and Pulse system installation, configuration, acceptance testing campaigns, hand over support and customer engineer and operator trainings, software and hardware upgrades and reconfigurations, refresh activities, and other related complex technical activities of existing and new Velocity and Pulse hubs/NOCs/testbeds/data centers/gateways.
    • Manage program level/system level testing activities – test plan and procedure management, test scheduling, execution, resolution, sell-off, and reporting.
    • Debug client system issues, and manage bugs.
    • Serve as the technical interface with the customer during the design, development, and test phases of client programs. Work closely with customers to ensure program test requirements are completed. This includes active involvement and management of tests, demonstrations, and inspections. Must be capable of hands-on work on both system hardware and software components.
    • Coordinate System Test campaigns at client, subcontractor factory sites, and at the customer sites. Write/manage/and execute test plans and procedures, including comprehensive program test plans.
    • Formally and informally present test status, issues, and results to customers and internal stakeholders.
    • Interface between client Engineering and Customer support issues requiring engineering support.
    • Work with client stakeholders on subjects of scope definition, change, and refinement.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • 7+ Years' experience with systems installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and warranty.
    • 7 Years of Test and/or Systems Engineering experience in the field of satellite communications and networking or related industry.
    • Demonstrated experience managing technical projects.
    • Experience working with and presenting to customers.
    • Ability to work extended hours, nights, and weekends when required during critical testing periods.
    • Travel and work at both domestic and international customer sites for up to 8 weeks at a time during test campaigns with subcontractors or customers.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Educational background
    • BS in Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field with relevant experience from an accredited four-year college or university.

    Skills / Work Experience

    • Must have excellent system level troubleshooting and problem resolution skills. Demonstrated hands-on Experience with network equipment procurement, installation, testing, troubleshooting, specification, and procurement of hardware and software.
    • Advance knowledge of TCP/IP Networking protocols and standards, routing, multicast, testing of IP based Layer 2 and Layer 3 products / applications and QOS.
    • Working knowledge of Satellite RF sub systems.
    • Moderate to advanced level knowledge in Linux, MySQL or similar databases, PERL or other similar programming languages.
    • Ability to capture and analyze IP packets using tools like Ethereal or Tcpdump
    • Experience with Test Director, WinRunner, LoadRunner, Bugzilla or Jira, Spirent SmartBits or TestCenter, and Ixia IP traffic generator.
    • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be self-motivated and a proactive thinker and planner.
    • Experience with a requirements management (tracking / verification / results storage) database.
    • Experienced with MS Office (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Visio, and Access).
    • Experienced in Supporting and leading installations, upgrades, and system integration efforts.
    • Must be a competent technical writer / editor.
    • Must be competent with interpreting and using electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, bills of materials, cables lists and similar documents.
    • Must be proficient with electrical and communications wiring, operation and setup of personal computers, and related processors, basics of monitor and control, basic mechanics, and handy with tools typically used in the assembly and installation of networking equipment.
    • Must be able to work in a fast paced development environment.
    • CCNA and/or Linux certification is desired.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

    • 7+ years of systems experience.
    • Experience with Satcom teleport / ground segment systems, large aperture ground station antennas, small aperture antennas, and related radio, converter, and communications network equipment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Work locations include typical office environment and satellite communications teleport
    • ("central office”) type environment.
    • This position requires the Project Engineer to:
    • Carry test equipment, computers, and related materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
    • Stand and perform testing work / observe testing for extended periods of time.
    • Work extended hours, nights, and weekends as required during testing campaigns.
    • Travel and work at both domestic and international customer sites for up to 8 weeks at a time.
    • Be able to adapt to occasional changes in work and travel schedules.
