    PBS (Plant Building System) Manufacturing CAD Engineer

    Company Profile:

    Job Summary:

    The PBS MANUFACTURING CAD ENGINEER will be responsible for modeling structures and components for our modular projects along with our next-generation components. This individual will create shop drawings, takeoffs, machine files, and executable BOM’s for all projects according to our best practice standards. The MANUFACTURING CAD ENGINEER will also work with management and production teams at our factories to improve virtual fabrication and operational processes for our building products, driving a design for manufacture mindset with each. This position reports to our Process Engineering Manager.

     

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Develop and document drafting methods and standards with PBS design and process engineers that are aligned with the best practices of the company.
    • Seamlessly integrate Revit files and PDF plans to CAD and CAM data as required.
    • Create fully executable BOM’s for material ordering and project costing, cut lists for material optimization, and construction drawings for production. Continue to iterate on each to strive for world class.
    • Create and maintain detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for CAD processes to achieve production efficiencies and drive productivity.
    • Develop virtual build process initiatives to manage projects from design for manufacture thru the virtual fabrication process and its implementation into the production system.
    • Create detailed quality control processes for the virtual build process; conduct tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of information output (autonomous quality).
    • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new methods and improved processes.
    • Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers, and contractors.
    • Prepare and deliver various Virtual Build/CAD presentations, both internally and externally as required for business needs.
    • Ensure adherence to standard processes and procedures.
    • Environment, health, safety, and sustainability taken into account in all doings
    • Various other activities as assigned to support the success of the organization

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • B.S. in engineering, architecture, building science, or related technical discipline
      • Minimum five (5) years’ home design experience - which must include custom, high quality, architectural homes; coupled with demonstration of exceptionable ability to succeed
      • Minimum of (3) years’ experience of 3D modeling; preferably of business or residential structures. Plant PreFab currently uses CadWork to generate our working models; experience with that or a similar transferrable CAD platform (Revit, ArchiCAD, MiTek Sapphire, etc.)
      • Analytical and mathematical mindset, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems.
      • Excellent time management skills. Possesses organizational competencies and project management abilities to keep projects, processes, and virtual information on track.
    • Understanding of a typical manufacturing facility; terms, and associated industrial workings including key items such as: automated and manual fabrication, facility layout, and lean manufacturing principles is beneficial
    • Experience with HCD (Housing and Community Development) standards are a plus
    • Ability to read and analyze drawings and specifications
    • Ability to analyze inefficiencies and problems; identify root causes and provide effective solutions. Able to be a creative thinker and devise clever solutions to everyday issues
    • Team player; ability to work in an upbeat, multi-cultural environment with cross functional teams. Startup mindset

    • Proven interpersonal communication skills distilling complicated topics to a broader audience.
    • Skilled in Microsoft Office suite
