    Job Description

    Concordia University seeks qualified applicants for the position of Dean of the School of Nursing (SON) on the CUW Mequon, Wisconsin, and CUAA Ann Arbor, Michigan, campuses. This position reports directly to the Provost.

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Dean provides oversight and direction for the academic programs which reside in the school, including traditional undergraduate BSN, accelerated BSN, non-traditional BSN Completion, Parish Nursing, MSN (Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator), DNP, and Certificate After Graduate Education in Nursing (CAGE) programs. The dean provides leadership, vision, and planning for the school on both the Mequon and Ann Arbor campuses. The dean also promotes collaboration among the school's programs, with other health care programs at CUWAA and with external stakeholders. In addition, the dean oversees the facility and human resource needs of the school, develops strong connections with community partners, and seeks external resources to help meet the school's goals. The dean is a member of the university's Academic Council and participates in other strategic planning and budgeting efforts of the university.

    The successful candidate will:

    • Demonstrate commitment to the Concordia University mission;
    • Provide evidence of success as a teacher, scholar, and educational administrator;
    • Create, implement, and balance initiatives to support the vision of the SON;
    • Have experience with strategic planning and program innovation;
    • Prepare and control the expenditure of approved budgeted funds for the program;
    • Ensure the nursing curriculum meets all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards;
    • Stay current in nursing education trends and guide the SON as needed to meet changing needs;
    • Create an atmosphere conducive to scholarly pursuits;
    • Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;
    • Demonstrate a collaborative leadership and management style;
    • Cultivate strategic partnerships with health care and community organizations;
    • Collaborate with the Admissions Office in recruiting highly-qualified students to support program growth;
    • Display a high level of initiative, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills; and
    • Create a positive, engaging, student-oriented environment that is welcoming and embraces diversity.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Current, active, unencumbered registered nurse license or privilege to practice nursing in Wisconsin and Michigan, or ability to obtain same;
    • Graduate degree with a major in nursing and earned academic doctorate in nursing or related field;
    • Current knowledge of nursing practice;
    • Successful leadership and administrative experience in higher education;
    • A record of excellence in teaching in a nursing education program; both face-to-face and online teaching experience preferred;
    • Strong record of peer-reviewed research/scholarship; and
    • Demonstrated knowledge of learning principles for adult education, including nursing curriculum development, administration and evaluation.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
