Abacus Staffing is seeking talented and motivated Scenic Carvers to join a team that creates award-winning, highly detailed themed environments and artistic installations. This role is ideal for candidates with backgrounds in scenic art, plaster work, concrete carving, theming, construction, or specialty finishes who are passionate about craftsmanship and producing exceptional artistic results.
Pay Rates
- Carver I (Entry Level): $29.00 - $33.00 per hour
- Carver II (Intermediate): $34.00 - $37.00 per hour
- Carver III (Advanced): $38.00 - $43.00 per hour
- Carver IV (Expert): $43.00 - $48.00 per hour
Schedule
Monday – Friday
- 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- 30-minute unpaid lunch
- 15-minute paid break
Schedules may vary based on project needs and daylight hours.
Position Summary
The Scenic Carver is responsible for creating high-quality themed environments through the use of concrete, plaster, epoxy, foam, urethanes, silicone, and specialty materials. Team members will shape, carve, texture, and finish artistic elements while working closely with project leads and artistic directors to deliver outstanding results for clients.
Essential Responsibilities
Carver I – Entry Level
- Follow all company, project, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Work with concrete, plaster, epoxy, foam, urethanes, and silicone materials.
- Assist with job site setup and cleanup.
- Learn proper concrete mixing techniques and material applications.
- Perform shaping, scratching, texturing, and carving techniques.
- Learn waterproofing systems and material disposal procedures.
- Use mason tools, hopper guns, drill mixers, pressure washers, shop vacuums, and shovels.
- Support teammates and maintain a positive work attitude.
- Create texture pads and assist with specialty finishing work.
Carver II – Intermediate
In addition to Level I duties:
- Utilize advanced carving techniques and specialty tools.
- Review and understand structural and texturing mixes.
- Create high-quality artistic finishes with moderate supervision.
- Monitor application depth and material adhesion.
- Properly shape and scratch structure coats.
- Assist pump teams during concrete shoots.
- Prepare and waterproof installations according to company standards.
- Identify and work around integration elements within projects.
Carver III – Advanced
In addition to Levels I & II duties:
- Complete complex artistic projects with minimal supervision.
- Independently determine required materials, tools, processes, and safety measures.
- Plan daily workflow and coordinate project tasks.
- Train and mentor other team members.
- Communicate artistic direction clearly to team members.
- Represent the company professionally when interacting with clients.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
Carver IV – Expert
In addition to Levels I, II & III duties:
- Conduct site walks to assess project progress and future needs.
- Coordinate staging of materials, access, and work readiness.
- Identify additional material requirements and manage logistics.
- Ensure work quality, efficiency, and compliance with project specifications.
- Lead crews and provide expert-level artistic and technical guidance.

Experience Requirements
Carver I
- 1–3 years of experience in scenic art, plaster work, or related fields.
Carver II
- 4–10 years of experience in the theming industry as a Scenic Artist or Carver.
Carver III
- 8–10 years of extensive experience in the theming industry.
Carver IV
- 10+ years of advanced experience as a Scenic Artist or Carver within the theming industry.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Primarily field-based position.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance when necessary.
- Ability to work in changing outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- May be required to work at heights using scaffolding, lifts, or elevated work platforms.
- Must possess good balance, agility, and awareness of surroundings.
