Concrete Estimator
Location: Reno, NV (office-based or hybrid as needed; jobsite walks in Northern Nevada)
Role Summary
We are hiring a Concrete Estimator to own takeoffs, pricing, and bid strategy for concrete scopes. This role is accountable for producing accurate, competitive estimates, creating clean handoffs to operations, and improving estimating consistency over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Build complete estimates for concrete scopes including:
- Structural concrete: foundations, footings, walls, grade beams, slabs, elevated decks (as applicable)
- Formwork, rebar, embeds, anchor bolts, accessories, curing, finishing, pumps, trucking, testing
- Perform quantity takeoffs from plans and specs and validate constructability assumptions.
- Develop pricing using client's production rates, historical data, subcontractor/vendor quotes, and market conditions.
- Solicit, level, and scope-review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors (rebar, forming, pump, batch plant, testing).
- Identify and manage risk:
- Clarify exclusions
- Flag scope gaps
- Capture logistics constraints (access, pour schedule, weather, inspections)
- Support bid strategy and proposals:
- Alternates
- Value engineering options
- Clarifications and RFIs
- Create a clean turnover package for awarded work:
- Estimate recap
- Assumptions and exclusions
- Quantity backup
- Key vendors/subs and commitments
- Maintain estimating templates and “checks and balances” to improve accuracy, speed, and repeatability.
- Partner with operations to compare estimated vs actual and continuously improve rates and assemblies.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years estimating experience in concrete construction (or closely related field with heavy concrete scope ownership).
- Ability to read and interpret plans/specs and build a defensible scope of work.
- Strong understanding of:
- Form/rebar/concrete placement sequencing
- Means and methods that impact cost (pour size, cycle time, crane/pump access, shoring, winter conditions)
- Strong communication and follow-through, especially around assumptions and handoffs.
- Proficiency with Excel; comfort working in structured estimating systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience estimating concrete
- Experience with mid-size to large commercial, industrial, or infrastructure concrete scopes.
- Familiarity with cost history tracking and feedback loops (estimate vs actual).
- Experience doing site walks and pre-bid constructability reviews.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Produce accurate, repeatable concrete estimates with clear assumptions and scope boundaries.
- Shorten bid-cycle chaos by tightening quote coverage and internal checklists.
- Improve award-to-ops turnover so field teams start with fewer unknowns.
Recommended pay range (Reno, NV)
A practical market range for a concrete-specific estimator in Reno is:
- $70,000 to $95,000 base for a solid mid-level estimator
- $95,000 to $120,000 base for a senior estimator who can independently run complex structural concrete bids and mentor others
$90k–$120k – This is our range for an estimator so the above fits overall – Note
