Concrete Estimator

Salary: $70,000 – $120,000 (DOE & Experience Level)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Concrete Estimator to join a growing team in Reno, NV. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of estimating for concrete scopes, including takeoffs, pricing, bid strategy, and project handoff to operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong concrete-specific experience who can independently build accurate, competitive estimates while contributing to process improvements and consistency across projects.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Takeoffs

• Develop complete estimates for concrete scopes including:
  • Foundations, footings, walls, grade beams, slabs, and elevated decks
  • Formwork, rebar, embeds, anchor bolts, finishing, curing, pumping, trucking, and testing
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications
• Validate constructability assumptions and identify potential challenges early

Pricing & Bid Development

• Build pricing using production rates, historical cost data, vendor/subcontractor quotes, and market conditions
• Solicit and level bids from suppliers and subcontractors (rebar, forming, batch plants, pumps, testing, etc.)
• Support bid strategy with:
  • Value engineering options
  • Alternates
  • RFIs and clarifications

Risk Management

• Identify scope gaps and define clear exclusions
• Capture jobsite logistics (access, sequencing, weather, inspections)
• Ensure all assumptions are documented and defensible

Project Handoff & Collaboration

• Prepare clean turnover packages including:
  • Estimate recap
  • Assumptions and exclusions
  • Quantity takeoffs and supporting documentation
  • Vendor and subcontractor commitments
• Partner with operations to compare estimated vs. actual costs and improve accuracy

Process Improvement

• Maintain and refine estimating templates and systems
• Contribute to building consistency, speed, and repeatability in estimating workflows

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of estimating experience in concrete construction or closely related field with heavy concrete scope ownership
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Deep understanding of:
  • Concrete sequencing (formwork, rebar, placement)
  • Means and methods impacting cost (pour size, cycle time, access, shoring, weather conditions)
• Strong communication skills, especially around scope assumptions and project handoffs
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and comfort working in structured estimating systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience estimating structural concrete scopes
• Experience with commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects
• Familiarity with cost tracking and estimate vs. actual analysis
• Experience performing site walks and constructability reviews

Compensation

• $70,000 – $95,000: Mid-level estimator
• $95,000 – $120,000: Senior estimator (independent bid ownership & mentorship capability)
• Compensation is flexible based on experience and ability to deliver results
