The Concrete Pump Truck Operator is responsible for mobilizing N.S. Giles pump trucks to construction projects throughout the State of Maine and safely operating truck-mounted concrete pump systems to place concrete efficiently and accurately. This role requires the Operator to transport equipment in compliance with DOT regulations, properly set up and stabilize the pump on site, and execute precise concrete placement in coordination with field crews.
In addition to pumping operations, the Operator is responsible for the thorough cleaning, inspection, and routine maintenance of pump trucks and associated line systems to ensure equipment reliability, longevity, and job readiness. The Operator serves as the primary steward of assigned equipment and is accountable for maintaining its safe, professional condition while upholding all company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Operate truck-mounted concrete pump systems safely and efficiently.
- Set up, monitor, and break down pump systems at job sites.
- Maintain constant awareness of job site conditions and safety hazards.
- Inspect equipment daily and ensure operational readiness.
- Follow all N.S. Giles safety policies and procedures.
- Follow all MDOT laws and regulations related to commercial vehicle operation.
- Maintain cleanliness and professional condition of pump truck (interior and exterior).
- Perform and/or assist with mechanical maintenance and minor repairs.
- Maintain pump line systems including clamps, hoses, and related components.
- Communicate effectively with foremen, project managers, dispatch, and crew members.
- Work independently using sound judgment and decision-making.
- Read and interpret basic job-related documents and measurements.
- Attend required trainings, including out-of-state equipment training when necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Transport pump truck to and from job sites in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Safely position and stabilize pump truck prior to operation.
- Monitor concrete flow to ensure accurate placement and quality control.
- Troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues in the field.
- Assist crews as needed while maintaining pump operation oversight.
- Ensure proper storage and securing of equipment after each shift.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections and maintenance.
- Adapt to changing job site demands and schedules.
- Travel and stay overnight when required by project location.
- Maintain professional appearance and uphold company core values.
Qualifications:
- Minimum State of Maine Class B Driver’s License (Class A preferred).
- Cleared to operate N.S. Giles commercial vehicles.
- Reliable transportation.
- Basic understanding of:
- Hydraulics
- Electrical components
- Truck-mounted boom systems
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional Saturdays.
- Ability to travel and stay overnight when required.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Acceptable attendance and performance record.
