    Purchasing Director

    What is the Opportunity?

    Located in North York, this position is responsible for establishing and implementing strategic procurement processes, while developing strong partnerships with vendors. This is a key role for an individual with both the experience and passion for driving best practices in the creation and implementation of short and long-term supply strategies, cost savings, and value. The Director is also responsible for the financial performance and the efficient and effective operation of the purchasing portfolio. This person is a highly-motivated, deadline driven professional, who demonstrates keen attention to detail.

    Strategic Sourcing

    New Product Launches

    Lead the new product launch preparations for all approved assets, with responsibility for ensuring the R&D development program supports and aligns to commercial value proposition.

    Cross-functional strategy alignment: Partners with IT, Finance, Project Management, and Portfolio Management to develop and systematically apply a methodology to maximize new product value with settlements.

    Supplier Management

    Negotiate & implement overall supply programs with suppliers for overall cost savings by implementation of JIT, VMI or production pull programs.

    Initiate, promote and maintain communication within the Purchasing Management organization, emphasizing connectivity between Purchasing, Planning, Sales and Demand Planning

    Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making. Identify data requirements for process interdependencies.

    Cost savings by Vendor consolidation and negotiation through strategic sourcing initiatives, such as RFP, RFQ, and Reverse Auctions.

    Replenishment

    Ensure the availability of all necessary materials required to support the manufacturing process with proper inventory management.

    Assess demand and establish availability to commit as well as communicate with Sales Demand planner to review the sales forecast for any variance.

    Prepare analytical reports on a regular and ad-hoc basis providing data driven insights to help optimize S&OP decisions.

    Develops automated reports and acts on them to ensure exceptions (upward and downward) to material consumption and/or finished goods are captured timely and takes necessary measures to avoid shortages. Advises Sales on those exceptions and escalates as required.

    Consistently improve on-time delivery performance

    Process Improvements, KPI’s & Budget Management

    Focus on process improvements by leading the identification of technology platforms that can be leveraged across multiple assets and enhance and generate commercial value

    Creating, revising, implementing and enforcing proper purchasing procedures for improved efficiency

    Team leadership and development

    Oversight of the hiring, orientation, evaluation, and development of procurement department team members

    What do you need to succeed?

    10 years progressive experience

    Degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain or applicable field required; CSCMP designation, MBA or CA an asset

    Experience in manufacturing industry

    Experience in developing specifications for and negotiating the purchase of a wide variety of operational and business services

    Demonstrated team and customer service focused excellence and interfaces well with a wide variety of internal and external customers

    Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and business skills

    Demonstrated ability to develop team members and to help them achieve their potential

    Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills

    Planning, organizing and scheduling skills

    Strong analytical skills, high level attention to detail, and ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment

    Willing to take on additional projects outside the scope of the role

    Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and ability to work with and analyze large datasets
