Job Description
Congregation B’nai Shalom of Westborough is seeking applicants for the position of Temple Secretary, reporting to the Executive Director. This position is non-exempt, hourly, and budgeted for approximately 30-35 hours per week. This job could be filled by one individual or divided into two part-time positions based on experience and responsibilities.
There is some availability of remote work, however, it is anticipated that a significant portion of the time will be onsite in Westborough based on general staffing requirements. However, there can be flexibility in scheduling, as well as in the mix of onsite and remote work. The job includes working with the Professional staff and lay leadership, as well as being a welcoming face and voice of the congregation with our members and visitors.
The Temple Secretary assists the Executive Director and Rabbis in a number of key functions within the Congregation and participates in front office reception and administration duties, answering phones, greeting, and directing inquiries properly, along with other office and clerical functions.
The overall responsibilities of the Temple Secretary are in three main areas, which could be assigned to one individual, or divided between two. These areas are Communication and Publicity, Financial, and Scheduling.

The ideal candidate has an outgoing personality, with demonstrable proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools. They are detail-oriented, a self-starter with the ability to quickly learn new applications (e.g. QuickBooks, Payroll systems, and our CRM, ShulCloud). They possess excellent oral and written communications skills and are able to adapt to additional responsibilities as required.
This position reports to the Synagogue’s Executive Director and will also interact regularly with the Clergy, lay leadership and other members of the administrative staff. Knowledge of Jewish ritual and traditions is a plus, but not required.
Compensation is hourly, ranging from $17 to $20 per hour based on experience.
