College Graduates, Are you deciding on a post-graduate program? Are you applying to PA school, medical school, nursing school, and do you need clinical experience? Whether you have majored in the sciences or are switching tracks, we want to help you on your journey. We have 20 medical assistants who are externs. This program began in 2017. It has been extremely successful. Many of the externs get into great programs. We even hired an extern, after she graduated from her PA-C program. In this position, you will gain a lot of experience in what it's like to be a provider in private practice. Our providers have gone to the best schools and training programs in the country. They will all share their clinical knowledge with you as you work side by side with them. You will be setting up rooms, documenting the patient's medical history and medications, as well as their chief complaints. You will share this with the provider and then enter the exam room to help them. You will be assisting with biopsies, excision, Mohs surgery, laser treatments, injectables, and body contouring, as well as general dermatology. You will send prescriptions and laboratory requisitions. You will know A LOT about dermatology. If you plan on going into dermatology, it will help you find a position after graduation. Alongside their provider, peers, and other team members, they will experience how private healthcare operates. Key Areas of Responsibility Medical Assistants will practice within the Connecticut State laws governing medical assistants. Those laws presently state: Medical assistants may gather patient data, record data in EMR, and share that information with the provider they are assisting. Medical Assistants may set up equipment for procedures to be performed by licensed practitioners. They may set up surgical trays They may prep patients for the application of Levulon, providers to apply Levulon. They may prepare patients under blue light, providers to activate the light. They may prepare the patient's skin for the numbing cream to be applied, providers place cream. They may cleanse the skin before surgery. They may assist patients in the lightbox for phototherapy, providers to set parameters and start treatment. They may prepare patients for Cool Sculpting, and the provider is to activate machines. They may prepare patients for laser services, putting protective eyewear, cleansing face for the provider to operate a laser. Medical assistants may call the patient to relay a message from the provider. Medical assistants may send medications ordered by the provider to the patient's pharmacy. Medical assistants may apply pressure during surgery. Medical assistants can properly care for all equipment used to practice dermatology.'
