  • Responsibilities

    The Assistant Director of Wellness & Recreation will work to promote wellness and recreation on the DeLand Campus of Stetson University. They will serve as the main overseer of the operations of the Hollis Wellness Center facility, including student staff, weight training space, cardio activities, and aquatic program, and open recreation.  They will additionally provide leadership to SOAR (Outdoor Recreation) and one Graduate Assistant.  The Assistant Director will serve as a member of the Department of Wellness and Recreation, reporting to the Director of Wellness and Recreation, with the expectation to uphold the departmental and University goals and mission as well as the overall goals of CLaSS (Campus Life and Student Success).

      

    • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate facility operations staff to include a Graduate Assistant, Fitness Coaches, Building Manager, and Member Service Staff
    • Advise the Wellness and Recreation Student Committee, responsible for providing professional development opportunities, social engagements, and appreciation for student employees
    • Oversee, track, and provide CPR, First Aid, and AED training to student employees and campus community members as needed
    • Supervise daily operations including equipment checkout, stocking equipment inventory, locker usage, patron complaints, and risk management issues
    • Manage operations for the Hollis Wellness Center including all equipment repair, equipment leasing/purchasing, copier management and work orders
    • Work with facilities department and outside vendors on these issues
    • Oversee the process of collecting and reporting facility usage numbers for Hollis Wellness Center. Run assessment and feedback programs to acquire feedback from students, staff and faculty regarding services. Communicate back to these same groups about changes and limitations.
    • Develop innovative and learning outcome driven fitness and open recreation programs
    • Develop and direct the outdoor recreation program to include computer-based registration, inventory and scheduling for outdoor programs, workshops and trips, adventure education, and outdoor equipment check-out
    • Oversee the creation and maintenance of printed materials, website, and social media campaigns
    • Serve on Divisional and University committees and initiatives as needed
    • Work in collaboration with the Athletics Department in regards to facilities management
    • Research and stay up to date on best practices in the field of Campus Recreation through NIRSA (National Intramural Recreation Sports Association) and other means. Engages in NIRSA professional development opportunities
    • Perform other duties as requested

    MINIMUM EDUCATION:  Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, recreation or related field (enrollment in a master's degree program is acceptable)

    Required Experience

    • A master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education/Promotion, Wellness, Counseling or related field (enrollment in a Master's degree program is acceptable)
    • Experience in managing a recreation facility, familiarity with best practices and knowledge of current trends and issues in student affairs, campus recreation and recreation facilities
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience in campus recreation, first aid, CPR instructor and personal trainer certifications are preferred

     

    Salary Grade:  5
