    We are currently seeking to hire a VICE PRESIDENT, RESEARCH COMPLIANCE, reporting to our Chief Scientific Officer. In this role you will provide strategic oversight and coordination of institute research compliance activities that promote the highest standards of ethics, integrity and responsibility. You will also work with leadership, faculty and operations compliance support staff to implement, enhance and maintain research compliance efforts 

     

    FUNCTIONS:

    • Work together with faculty and operations units to ensure compliance with government regulations and research scientist success in grant-funded research.  
    • Ensure cohesive functioning across compliance activities:  sponsored projects, effort reporting, conflicts of interest/commitment reporting, other support/foreign component reporting, export/import control, material transfer agreements, human subjects/animal research, procurement, records retention, biosafety
    • Ensure effective, current, ongoing institutional internal controls consistent with federal research regulations; maintain an understanding of current and emerging federal guidance and regulations
    • Develop and/or improve written policies and procedures to meet best practices
    • Ensure appropriate mandatory training program with good communication strategies and supportive tone
    • Serve as a key point of contact/communication and subject matter expert both externally, e.g. with NIH, NSF, DoD and internally

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • D. degree in science-related field with a minimum of ten years of experience in a university academic, grant-funded basic research organization or other comparable environments including significant responsibility for research regulatory compliance
    • Research Compliance Certification (CHRC) preferred
    • Thorough understanding of current NIH regulatory environment 
    • Capable of assessing and explaining regulatory issue impact on the institute and its researchers
    • Experience with effectively interpreting regulations and guidance for specific audiences in the spirit of collaboration, customer service, teamwork and support
    • Ability to handle sensitive communications with leadership, legal counsel and regulatory agencies, resolving difficult situations as needed  
    • Strong project management skills

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Estimate, including assisting with quantity take-offs, subcontractor list management and subcontractor contacts, research on various systems and products, studies and comparisons, document management, and keeping accurate records.
    • Ensure that the estimating process runs smoothly and efficiently and client expectations are exceeded throughout the duration of the project(s).
    • Prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work.
    • Prepare qualifications and assumptions for the estimate.
    • Prepare cost comparisons/reconcile with previous estimates.
