  • Responsibilities

    The purpose of this position is to supervise crews and the projects or actions related to the City’s water supply.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
    • Ensures all equipment is being properly maintained maintenance by staff and all safety procedures are followed.
    • Ensures proper functions of City’s water distribution system by responding to any issues.
    • Prepares and/or completes work orders and service requests.

    Supplemental Functions:

    • Performs other similar duties as required.

    Job Specifications and Qualifications:


    Knowledge:

    • Landscaping
    • Water distribution repair and operations
    • Operating heavy equipment and hand and power tools
    • Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations

    Licensing and Certifications :

    • Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License
    • The ability to obtain NC Grade C Distribution Certification within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain may result in termination.

    PLEASE NOTE : Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

    Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

    • Positions in this class require: Standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
    • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
    • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.

    Required Experience

    High school diploma or equivalency, with at least three (3) years of relevant water resources experience; with supervisory experience preferred; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
