  • Responsibilities

    We are seeking a Construction Estimator with proven experience in underground utilities and civil construction who can immediately contribute to our growth. This role is responsible for identifying bidding opportunities, performing accurate takeoffs, and producing competitive, profitable bids across both private and public sectors. The ideal candidate is not just a number cruncher — they are a pipeline builder who understands how to find work, evaluate opportunities, and help drive consistent backlog for a fast-scaling contractor. Responsibilities: Identify and source bidding opportunities • Private work (developers, general contractors, utility clients) • Public work (PlanetBids, Caltrans, municipalities, primes) Perform detailed takeoffs • Underground utilities (dry utilities, joint trench, HDD) • Potholing, trenching, vault/box setting, and restoration scopes Prepare complete and accurate estimates • Labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production rates • Scope reviews and gap analysis from plans and specifications Build and manage bid packages • Coordinate vendor and subcontractor pricing • Ensure timely and complete bid submissions Maintain and track bid pipeline • Monitor deadlines, priorities, and hit rates • Focus on high-probability, strategic opportunities Communicate with clients and partners • GCs, developers, municipalities, and vendors • Clarifications, RFIs, and scope alignment Support company growth goals • Help maintain a consistent 3–6 month backlog Qualifications: 3+ years estimating experience in underground utilities, civil construction, or related field Proven experience with: • Directional drilling (HDD) and/or dry utilities • Trenching, conduit, and restoration scopes Strong proficiency in: • Plan reading and specification analysis • Takeoff software (Bluebeam, Planswift, or similar) • Excel or estimating platforms Experience bidding: • Private development work (preferred) • Public works projects (strong plus) Ability to: • Independently find and pursue work to bid • Understand production rates and real-world field operations • Manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously • Strong communication and organizational skills • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven Compensation: $85,000 - $120,000 yearly
