    JMT's Virginia Beach Construction Management Team is seeking a Construction Inspector. The successful candidate will apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

    Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

    Compensation for this position is $30.00 - $36.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description.     Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
    • Performs routine tests on concreate, soils and other materials
    • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
    • Gathers and maintains record documents
    • Makes field notes and computations

    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Required Skills

    • Strong Computer proficiency
    • Active driver's license
    • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

    Required Certifications

    • Soil and Aggregate Compaction - NICET LEVEL II*
    • Asphalt Field Level I
    • Asphalt Field Level II
    • Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field - ACI Concrete Field Level I, or WACEL Concrete I, or NICET LEVEL II*
    • Pavement Marking
    • GRIT (Guardrail Certification)
    • Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection - Virginia DEQ
    • Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification - Virginia DEQ
    • Nuclear Gauge Safety Training - Nuclear Regulatory Commission Recognized Provider
    • Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control - VDOT Approved Provider
    • 10 Hour OSHA Safety Training – OSHA

    *Beginning in 2013, VDOT Materials Division will no longer be recognizing Mid-Atlantic Regional Technician Certification Program (MARTCP) certifications; current VDOT Letters of Reciprocity will remain valid until the expiration of the MARTCP or state DOT certification that the letter is based on. VDOT Materials Division will start recognizing NICET Level II Certifications in Soils and Concrete.

    Additional Required Certifications**

    • Slurry Surfacing (SS)
    • Surface Treatment (ST)

    ** These certifications, Slurry Surfacing (SS) and Surface Treatment (ST), will be required by the Department at the time of issuing task orders involving such work.

    Required Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
    • 3 - 7 years of Roadway Construction Inspection Experience
    • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management preferred
    • Client Requested certifications preferred

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
