Position Summary: Support trenching and underground utility installation operations by performing essential manual labor tasks while maintaining the highest safety standards on active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate hand tools and small power tools for excavation, backfill, and site preparation activities
Assist with loading, unloading, and organizing materials, equipment, and supplies at job sites
Support trenching operations by clearing debris, maintaining work areas, and preparing sites for equipment
Install and remove safety barriers, traffic control devices, and job site signage as directed
Perform manual excavation around sensitive utilities and in areas requiring precision digging
Assist with grade checking, threading and pulling cables, and backfill operations
Maintain job site cleanliness and organization according to company and client standards
Follow all safety protocols, wear required PPE, and participate in daily safety meetings
Communicate effectively with crew leaders and team members to ensure efficient operations
Complete assigned tasks within project timelines while maintaining quality standards
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly throughout the workday
Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
Willingness to travel and work away from home for extended periods (2-8 weeks)
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
Strong work ethic and reliability with consistent attendance
Basic understanding of construction safety practices
Preferred Qualifications:
1+ years of construction or manual labor experience
Previous trenching, excavation, or underground utility experience
OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification
Experience with construction hand tools and small equipment
Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A or CDL-B)
Work Environment & Conditions:
Field-based position working on active construction sites nationwide
Travel required 75-90% of the time, with projects lasting 2-8 weeks
Standard schedule: 10-hour days, 6 days per week (overtime opportunities available)
Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions on uneven terrain
Physical demands include frequent lifting, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods
May require work in confined spaces and around heavy construction equipment
What We Offer:
Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and certifications:
No CDL: $15.50 - $20.00 per hour
With CDL-B: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
With CDL-A: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour
