Drill Crew Locator – Job Description

This position requires a licensed underground utility locator. No exceptions.

Responsibilities

Use professional locating equipment to track the drill head underground

Communicate real‑time depth, pitch, and direction to the drill operator

Ensure the bore stays within approved alignment and depth tolerances

Prevent utility strikes by maintaining safe clearances at all times

Walk the bore path ahead of the drill and identify obstacles or hazards

Confirm entry and exit points match the approved bore plan

Mark the bore path and maintain constant visual control of alignment

Assist with potholing and exposing utilities when required

Help set up pits and maintain safe, compliant work zones

Support the drill operator and ground crew as needed

This role is critical to safe drilling operations. Only licensed, qualified locators will be considered.
