An established commercial mechanical and plumbing contractor in the Kansas City metro is hiring a full-time Safety Director to lead jobsite safety on commercial and industrial HVAC and plumbing projects. The role supports design-build work from in-house fabrication through field installation, on projects valued at $10M and above. This on-site position combines field inspections, incident investigation, OSHA compliance, and safety team development.

Key Responsibilities - Safety Manager
- Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections on commercial and industrial HVAC and plumbing projects. Document hazards, recommend mitigation, and verify that corrective actions are completed.
- Lead incident investigations, including interviews, data compilation, photographs, and required documentation. Track findings through to closeout.
- Evaluate project safety plans and permits. Oversee fire protection and the storage and management of flammable and combustible materials.
- Act as the safety lead with regulators, clients, general contractors, and subcontractors to meet project objectives. Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Develop and mentor safety staff and support their advancement. Strengthen the safety and health culture across the business unit.
Qualifications - Safety Manager
- 7+ years of construction site safety management experience.
- Experience managing safety on construction projects of $10M or more.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA construction safety regulations (29 CFR 1926).
- Completion of OSHA 500, plus current First Aid and CPR training.
- A BCSP safety professional certification: CSP, CHST, or ASP.
Preferred Qualifications - Construction EHS Manager
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or a related field.
- Authorized OSHA Outreach Construction Trainer for the OSHA 30-Hour course.
- Safety experience in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, or fabrication shop environments.
Physical Requirements - Safety Manager
- Work in office settings and on outdoor construction jobsites. The work involves sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending.
- Occasionally lift up to 40 lbs and climb stairs and ladders.
- Noise levels vary by location.
- Wear required PPE, including a hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and a high-visibility vest.
- Travel regularly to project sites across the region in a company vehicle.
