    About The Company

Nestled in the heart of Santa Monica, a dynamic team is on the lookout for a dedicated Estimator to join their ranks. In this pivotal role, you'll be reporting to the Head Estimator and become a vital part of a renowned construction company. With a rich history spanning 38 years, this company started as a custom millwork venture, which is still thriving in Long Island, NY and Los Angeles, CA. It then evolved into a thriving construction enterprise that not only survived but thrived during the challenges of the 2008 recession. Their impressive project portfolio comprises 99% residential projects with budgets ranging from $5 million to $80 million, including both ground-up constructions and intricate renovations. Their Los Angeles office has been a hub of creativity for three years, housing 15 dedicated employees, and across all three companies, they boast a total workforce of 162 professionals. At present, they have eight exciting projects in the pipeline and collaborate with prominent architects from various backgrounds.

But what truly sets this company apart is their deeply ingrained culture, where long-term relationships take precedence over short-term gains. Their commitment to employee retention is a testament to their hiring philosophy - they seek individuals who fit seamlessly into their culture and align with their long-term vision. Collaboration is not just a buzzword; it's a way of life here. Their in-house BIM Team stands as a symbol of their dedication to teamwork and innovation, and every member is encouraged to take ownership and go above and beyond their job description. Furthermore, community engagement is at the core of their values. The company actively participates in networking events and community initiatives, building connections with realtors, owner representatives, architects, and more.

    What’s In It For You

What does this mean for your career? It means joining an environment where an in-house BIM team provides unwavering support, where you'll focus on one project at a time, ensuring stability in your work. Their project pipeline boasts budgets ranging from $8 million to $25 million, with the potential for projects exceeding $50 million. You'll have the opportunity to work for a technologically advanced company that pioneers industry standards, setting the path for the construction industry's future. Additionally, you'll benefit from a strong subcontractor base that streamlines your work.

    Role & Responsibility

As an Estimator in this environment, your daily life will be marked by collaboration. You'll work closely with the Sr. estimator and the rest of the team to meticulously analyze architectural plans, paying attention to even the smallest details. Customization is key; you'll use relevant tools to compile estimates, and every step of the process is highly tailored, involving detailed procedures for every aspect of construction. You won't be confined to a desk; you'll interact with potential clients, understand their requirements, and incorporate these into the estimates. You may find yourself in meetings, possibly at construction sites, to assess project needs. You'll be deeply involved in the preconstruction phase and will lead the buyout efforts, determining which subcontractors are the best fit for the project. Continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies will be the norm, as the company explores transitioning to new software in the coming years. While your primary workspace will be the office, occasional site visits may be required to assess ongoing projects or gather specific information for estimates. Mentorship is a vital part of your journey, with the current Sr. estimator and the current estimator offering their wealth of experience to guide and nurture your growth.

In terms of hard skills, the ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of previous experience as a high-end residential construction estimator, solid knowledge of construction operations, and the ability to predict project needs through the estimating process and blueprint reading. A curious and humble attitude, excellent teamwork and communication skills, knowledge of value engineering techniques, client interface experience, proficiency in understanding architectural drawings, familiarity with relevant software and estimating tools, negotiation skills with subcontractors, and the ability to assess project risks and incorporate contingencies into estimates are all valued traits. Soft skills include being a builder at heart, highly collaborative, prioritizing relationships, embracing a learning mindset, proactive and willing to seek help when needed, open to new technologies and approaches, and driven with a sense of urgency.
