    A global law firm consistently ranked among the top firms in the world, is currently seeking a Payroll Supervisor to join our winning team, located in our Global Services Office in downtown Los Angeles.     As a Payroll Supervisor at firm, you will be responsible for supervising the daily operations of the payroll department while ensuring compliance to all policies and procedures of the firm. You will work with and make recommendations to the Payroll Manager regarding various projects, including validation and processing of data for new hires, terminations, rate adjustments, leaves of absences, address changes, promotions, rate changes, transfers and semi-annual performance appraisals while accomplishing these and other critical functions:

     

    • Supervising and coordinating the payroll staff; including their schedules and work activities.
    • Ensuring goals and objectives of department are met. Providing accurate and timely completion of assignments and inquiry responses. Ensuring that all tasks and duties completed are done within the firm’s set guidelines and policies.
    • Working with manager to generate performance evaluations, and recommend salary increases. Also working with HR to recruit, select, train, coach, and discipline employees.
    • Reviewing, investigating, and resolving most problems encountered by financial accounting staff.
    • Training and developing the Payroll Accountant I and II employees. Ensuring the non-exempt and exempt payroll production and other related payroll and/or benefit functions are accurately completed each day.
    • Working with manager to develop and implement appropriate payroll operations policies and controls. Ensuring all internal controls and processes prevent errors and are in compliance with corporate policies, and state and federal regulation.
    • Preparing audit schedules for year-end requirements such as 401K Audit, W-2 reconciliation, Workers Compensation, and Bonuses.
    • Preparing and completing annual W-2 processing and balancing requirements.
    • Working with staff and manager to run all reports related to payroll cycle close. Reviewing reports for audits and other payroll related transactions and previews the register prior to finalizing the payroll. Helping balance and verify payrolls prior to final release. Ensuring payroll is closed accurately.
    • Preparing ad hoc analysis, reports, and management presentations as needed.
    • Providing support to the day to day operations such as manual checks for new hires, terminations, and other payroll adjustments.
    • Responding to report requests from practice offices and the Global Services Office. Researching and responding to questions relating to payroll issues. Analyzing and responding to budget and General Ledger related questions.
    • Providing assistance, support, and customer service to all payroll customers.
    • Assisting with any projects needed by the department or staff.
    • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers.

    Qualifications:

    As a Payroll Supervisor, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Payroll Supervisor must have the ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.  

    • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in managing payroll processes with high employee volume, approximately 2,500 (multi-state and international, exempt/non-exempt environment)
    • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working with multi-state payroll system is desired
    • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Payroll 9.2, Kronos Workforce 6.3 and ADP is strongly preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting required
    • CPP, PHR, or SHRM-CP is preferred
