    Job Description

    THE POSITION

    Directs the software systems development function, including the design, development, troubleshooting, and debugging of software programs for software enhancements and new products. Oversees the development of software and software tools used for design, infrastructure, and platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, and databases. Determines hardware compatibility and/or hardware design.  Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.  Responsible for the complete Application Software Engineering including Solution Management, Releases, Architecture and Development activities for all GM1 ADAS projects in the North American region.  These groups include SW Product Managers, SW Product Owners, SW architecture, SW Integration, SW Development.   Ensures team is able to perform activities, ensures continuous improvement and ensures we are meeting all of our internal milestones and deliverables.  This team is responsible for all the issue support for the customer ensuring triage for fast response for development projects and projects in safe launch phase until transfer to series support.  Regional responsible for competency development of all team members, working with local and global process and training coordinators to ensure on time competency build.

    Essential Functions:

    • Management of the Direct reports.
    • Define and clarify job responsibilities.
    • Assign team members to projects.
    • Resource planning for all projects and identifying resource gaps and propose solutions.
    • Performance planning, Mid-year and year end performance reviews with direct reports.
    • Define individual goals for team members.
    • Develop career planning together with direct report.
    • Develop training and development measures together with team member.
    • Management support in projects.
    • Responsible for resolving most complex problems within multi­­ departments and/or cross ­­functional area- remove roadblocks stopping the team from moving forward.
    • Coach team members on how to handle situations in projects.
    • Determine best practices and implement continuous improvement in the activities of the team.
    • Ensure read across in the SW projects for issues, best practices and lessons learned.
    • Identify areas of weakness and strengths in the team and determine plan to improve weaknesses and build on strengths.
    • Global alignment.
    • Represent NA for Global SW community for engineering, project management and release topics.
    • Ensure NA region is aligned with the global team.
    • Communicate SW project management and Release global changes to NA team.
    • Address any systematic issues to the global team.
    • Stay up to date with global process manager for process areas.
    • Aligns policies/products and development efforts with regional and global SW strategies.
    • Collaborates globally to ensure maximum commonality of SW solutions, processes, and workflows.
    • Defining personnel needs and capital needs.
    • Ensures the team has the technical ability to support the group’s responsibilities.
    • Define workflows and jobs to obtain optimum effectiveness for group.
    • Coordinates efforts for support of defined responsibilities of the group.
    • Defines objectives and KPIs for the group 
    • Communicate to management roadblocks, delays, escalation topics and project status.
    • Ensure utilization of the team on projects.
    • Ensure all project hours are recorded.

    Qualifications

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Relevant BS Engineering Degree
    • 7+ years professional experience in automotive; 2+ years of leadership experience.
    • Capable of developing technical solutions to new or highly complex organizational problems. Considered an expert to provide advice or solutions in technical area.
    • Problem Solving - An expert with the experience to teach to others.  Organizational Problem Solving skills / Creativity.
    • Research and Development  - Capable of managing and directing the research and development teams to meet organizational needs and to capitalize on potential products.
    • Analysis / Synthesis  - Capable of weighing the costs, benefits, risks, and chances for success, in making a decision.
    • Project Management  - Expert in one of the following: Project Management, Service Management, or Relationship Management. Demonstrated ability to contribute to a global and/or diverse and/or complex projects. Leads projects or internal sub-teams covering various internal team activities .
